Brown University Athletics is seeking candidates for multiple Athletics Public Address Announcer positions. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-DI).
Job Description The public address announcer position is responsible for informing everyone in attendance at an athletic contest of any and all pertinent information occurring during the event. The PA announcer must also conduct commercial "reads" throughout the game or event, annunciate clearly and accurately, and project to a large crowd. Knowledge of the event, its rules, and the appropriate time to announce are extremely important. At times, the PA Announcer will need to collect starters from coaching staffs prior to the game and proof the script for accuracy.
All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations. The duties of the position are performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League rules and regulations; any violations are reported to the compliance office. Employees in coaching positions must receive annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (available at no cost through the Division).
Qualifications
Must have comprehensive knowledge of a given sport's rules and regulations.
This position requires knowledge of, or the ability to learn, specific game protocol as it pertains to Ivy League and NCAA rules.
Must observe and react to events on the field/court/athletic venue to accurately announce information.
Must have an excellent speaking voice, ability to project and annunciate, and read announcements in a timely fashion.
Possess willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
