High‑end Residential Architecture/Interiors Firm is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the design process, mentor junior staff, coordinate with clients, vendors and contractors, and ensure all projects align with the firm’s vision and standards. This role requires a balance of creative vision, technical knowledge and project management expertise. We are looking for an individual with a passion for high‑end residential design, strong technical skills, highly organized, 8+ years experience, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment. The ideal candidate will combine strong design expertise with proven leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
Manage and mentor a team of interior designers, architects and design assistants, providing guidance on design concepts, technical execution and professional growth.
Conduct regular performance reviews and facilitate training opportunities.
Foster a collaborative creative environment that encourages innovation and excellence.
Project Oversight
Lead interior design projects from conceptual development through construction administration and installation.
Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to design standards, budget parameters and project timelines.
Review and approve design concepts, space plans, material selections and technical drawings.
Coordinate design development with construction schedules and vendor deliveries.
Design Excellence
Maintain standards by reviewing all design work for quality, functionality and aesthetic coherence.
Stay current with design trends, materials and industry best practices to guide the team in creating cutting‑edge solutions.
Ensure all designs meet building codes, accessibility requirements and client specifications.
Quality Control & Standards
Develop and implement design processes, standards and documentation protocols.
Review construction drawings, specifications and material schedules for accuracy and completeness.
Conduct site visits during construction to ensure design intent is properly executed.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture or related field; NCIDQ certification preferred.
8+ years of experience in high‑end interior design, preferably with a focus on high‑end residential projects and at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
Strong portfolio demonstrating residential and/or boutique commercial work.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite and project management tools (e.g., Studio Designer, Asana).
Deep understanding of design principles, materials, FF&E sourcing and construction processes.
Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
Highly organized, detail‑oriented and capable of managing multiple deadlines.
Familiarity with Illinois building codes, ADA standards and permitting processes.
