Join HNTB as a Senior Drainage Design Manager to lead high‑impact transportation projects.
HNTB’s Design‑Build organization is expanding. The successful candidate will manage drainage design teams, deliver quality work on time, and track project budgets, schedules, and client satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Develop project scope, fee quotations, and technical proposals.
Serve as the primary client liaison, managing project teams to deliver scope, schedule, and budget objectives.
Perform technical discipline tasks: analysis, reports, design, specifications, and production.
Implement the firm’s delivery approach, leading project management plan development and execution.
Oversee project staffing: recruitment, development, retention, and succession planning.
Partner with Client Service Leaders and pursue champions to support business development.
Assist with recruitment, hiring, and performance reviews of staff.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 12 years of relevant experience.
4 years of successful management of engineering projects.
What You’ll Bring
Leadership of drainage teams for design plans on complex transportation projects.
Experience developing modeling, calculations, plans, specs, and quality control.
Collaboration with other disciplines for fully integrated design.
Work with the project management team and contracting partners for constructable design.
Ability to develop cost estimates and identify risks.
Develop scopes, fees, and work plans for aggressive schedules.
Assign tasks to deliver quality deliverables on schedule.
Subject matter expert providing senior review of designs, proposals, fees, and scopes nationwide.
Hydrology and hydraulics design of surface water runoff, stormwater management, channel modeling, scour analysis, and mitigation measures.
Proficient with standard industry software: Microstation, InRoads Drainage, GEOPAK, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Storm CAD, HEC‑RAS, SWMM, PondPack, Culvert Master, Flow Master, etc.
What We Prefer
Master’s degree in Engineering.
15+ years of experience designing hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater on fast‑paced transportation infrastructure.
Professional Engineer (PE) certification and ability to obtain PE in multiple states.
Excellent communication skills.
Familiarity with construction methods to optimize designs.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local permitting.
CA PE preferred.
