Library Specialist, Children/Teen
City of Hoover – Library Department
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent with at least two (2) years of library experience
Or Associate’s Degree with one (1) year of library experience
Or Bachelor’s Degree or higher
Experience operating a computer, including Microsoft Office
Excellent internal and external customer service skills
Ability to maneuver among high and low shelves
Ability to work a flexible schedule to includes weekdays, nights and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Library Science
Responsibilities
Assist patrons with material selection and answer reader's advisory questions
Plan and implement weekly preschool story time and children's programs and services
Develop a collection to meet community needs
Classify materials
Prepare and process book holds, intra‑library loans and inter‑library loans
Assist patrons with internet searches and electronic databases
Prepare informational or educational programming for patrons and handle related publicity
Supervise the department on nights and weekends in the absence of the Coordinator
Conduct outreach to local schools, daycare facilities and other community events
Perform other duties as assigned
