Job Overview Jensen Hughes is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Sprinkler Design Consultant with a NICET Level IV Certification in Water-Based Systems Layout. The successful candidate will provide expert-level consulting, design, project oversight, and code compliance guidance for complex fire sprinkler systems. This role requires deep technical knowledge, leadership ability, and a strong commitment to quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and layout of automatic fire sprinkler systems for a wide range of facilities, ensuring compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, and client requirements.

Generate fire suppression specifications for water‑based fire‑suppression systems.

Provide technical consulting to clients and other key stakeholders such as project managers, contractors, architects, and engineers regarding optimal sprinkler system design and integration.

Review and evaluate sprinkler shop drawing submittals produced by sprinkler installation contractors.

Create sprinkler shop drawing submittal packages.

Perform detailed hydraulic calculations and material take‑offs.

Design and size fire pumps and controllers.

Conduct field surveys and inspections to verify proper installation and compliance with the project design documents, specifications and applicable codes and standards.

Mentor and support the professional development of junior designers and engineers.

Coordinate with AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) to ensure project approvals.

Stay current with changes to applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.

Assist with quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews for projects companywide.

Requirements and Qualifications

NICET Level IV Certification in Water-Based Systems Layout (required).

Minimum of 8–10 years of fire sprinkler design experience.

Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, HydraCAD, SprinkCAD, or similar.

Strong knowledge of NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, and other relevant codes and standards.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.

Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.

Ability to travel as needed for site surveys, inspections, or client meetings.
