Senior Sprinkler Designer RME‑G
– Allied Fire Protection – Houston, TX
Job Responsibilities
Design and lay out sprinkler systems using specialized CAD software that is based on the AutoCAD platform.
Coordinate sprinkler system piping with other building components and perform hydraulic calculations.
Read and interpret construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
Interpret and apply applicable NFPA standards to the design and layout of sprinkler systems based on the building type, construction type, hazard classification, and architectural features.
Perform field checks of completed designs to verify accuracy, if required.
Work closely with the Estimation department, Design Manager, and Operations Manager to review scope sheets and project requirements.
Coordinate projects to meet delivery dates.
Communicate with AHJs, contractors, and other trades.
Coordinate with team members for listing of required materials, permitting, and inspection requirements.
Actively participate in pre‑design and review meetings.
Identify opportunities for cost‑saving measures and quality improvement.
Adhere to company safety policies and procedures to ensure all duties are performed safely and professionally.
Provide outstanding customer service.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required.
Experience designing fire sprinkler systems.
Current RME‑G license.
NICET Level I–IV certification is preferred.
Work Experience
Minimum 6+ years of Fire Protection Design experience or a Fire Sprinkler Design Degree.
Skills and Competencies
Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office; HydraCAD preferred.
Ability to visualize 3D concepts and solve basic mathematical problems, including geometry and algebra.
Proficient in interpreting and applying applicable NFPA standards and reading construction documents.
Must obtain and retain any licenses required by national, state/province, and local codes.
Experience with a variety of system types and manufacturers.
Strong knowledge of industry codes such as IFC, NFPA, IBC, and NEC.
Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings.
Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced service/construction team environment.
Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to travel as needed.
Physical Requirements
75% Office Setting: sitting, some bending, some lifting, walking, and viewing.
25% jobsite visits as needed.
