Summary The Learning & Development team is a vital partner in employee success, and this role supports that mission by designing strategic learning solutions across departments.
The Instructional Designer II is a senior‑level designer responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of high‑impact learning experiences that build capability and support operational goals across KCC Manufacturing. This role partners with subject matter experts (SMEs), leaders, and stakeholders at all levels of the organization to analyze performance needs, design learner‑centered content, and create scalable training programs.
Serving as a lead designer for complex or cross‑departmental initiatives, the Instructional Designer II independently manages projects from intake through deployment, ensuring alignment between stakeholder expectations, learning objectives, and business outcomes. This role brings strong consulting skills, advanced proficiency with authoring tools, and a solutions‑focused mindset to strengthen the L&D function and elevate the quality of training across KCC.
Essential Functions
Independently conducts the full instructional design lifecycle from intake and needs analysis through design, development, review, and delivery for complex or high‑visibility projects (e.g., APQP curriculum, technical training initiatives, Quality training initiatives).
Manages and facilitates the intake process, clarifying scope, timelines, risks, and objectives to ensure requests are accurate, actionable, and aligned with L&D capacity and standards.
Collaborates with SMEs and stakeholders across all levels (Quality, Engineering, Safety, Production, HR, BT, Sales/Engineering) to define learning needs, validate content, and align training solutions with operational requirements.
Designs and develops engaging, learner‑centered training experiences including eLearning, instructor‑led training (ILT), blended programs, facilitator guides, participant guides, simulations, and performance support tools.
Conducts learning needs analysis to identify performance gaps, learner audiences, constraints, risks, and business objectives before content creation begins.
Writes measurable learning objectives, assessments, and evaluation tools to ensure programs improve performance and support business goals.
Leads storyboarding and program architecture for multi‑module or multi‑audience initiatives, ensuring cohesive learning pathways across assets.
Produces polished, high‑quality materials using advanced authoring tools (Rise, Storyline, Vyond, Camtasia, Premiere, Photoshop, etc.) while ensuring accessibility, brand alignment, and bilingual deliverables (English/Spanish).
Facilitates SME reviews, pilot sessions, QA loops, and iterative refinements before deployment.
Prepares facilitator materials and ensures ILT components align with session objectives and learner experience.
Tracks and evaluates program effectiveness using learner data, completion metrics, and stakeholder feedback, recommending improvements as needed.
Represents L&D in strategic project conversations, emerging needs discussions, and cross‑departmental collaboration opportunities.
Maintains all training assets, versioning, and archives, ensuring long‑term consistency and easy updates for future releases.
Safety Responsibilities
Adhere to all applicable safety guidelines during media capture or on‑site research
Report any unsafe behavior or concerns encountered during training development

Position Type / Hours Of Work
Full‑time, Monday‑Friday 8am‑5pm with flexibility for training events or SME availability
This is an on‑site position based at our Louisville, KY location. Remote work is limited for this role.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years in instructional design, including lead or senior‑level work on programs
Experience managing complex training programs across multiple audiences and formats (eLearning, instructor‑led, blended)
Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly desired to support translation workflows and inclusive design
