Base pay range
$100,000.00/yr – $115,000.00/yr
Position Summary We are seeking a Senior Plumbing Designer to lead the design and coordination of plumbing and mechanical systems across a variety of building types, including civic, education, transportation, and commercial projects. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a collaborative mindset.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical design process from concept through construction documents
Develop plumbing system layouts using Revit and AutoCAD
Perform load calculations, equipment selection, and energy analysis
Coordinate with architects, structural, electrical, and civil engineers
Review and mark up shop drawings and submittals
Mentor junior designers and engineers
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and sustainability goals
Participate in client meetings and presentations as needed
Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
8+ years of experience in mechanical design for buildings
Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical design software (e.g., Trane Trace, Carrier HAP)
Strong knowledge of building codes, ASHRAE standards, and LEED principles
Excellent communication and coordination skills
PE license preferred, but not required
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in industry-specific experience
Familiarity with additional tools or methodologies
LEED accreditation or similar (if relevant)
Experience
8+ years of experience managing plumbing design projects from schematic design through construction
Experience in relevant markets such as education, civic, workplace, or institutional
Proven ability to lead or contribute to multi‑disciplinary teams in a collaborative studio environment
Technical Expertise
Deep knowledge of plumbing codes and standards (IPC, UPC, NFPA, ASPE)
Familiarity with sustainable plumbing design (LEED, WELL, water conservation strategies)
Proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, and plumbing‑specific tools (e.g., HASS, Pipe Flow Expert)
Strong understanding of MEP coordination and technical documentation
Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead engineering staff
Strong project management skills: budgeting, scheduling, task management, and quality control
Collaborative mindset with clients, consultants, and internal teams
Communication
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable presenting to clients and participating in business development efforts
