Technical Writer (CSOSS Documentation) – Hampton Roads, VA
Kratos is seeking a skilled Technical Writer to support the development and maintenance of technical documentation for the Combat Systems Operational Sequencing System (CSOSS) program. The role requires hands‑on experience with PTC Arbortext Editor, IsoDraw, and a strong understanding of CSOSS technical writing standards and document configuration for Navy ship classes.
This position is open to Veterans, Transitioning Military, National Guard Members, Military Spouses, and Caregivers of War Wounded.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, revise, and maintain moderately complex technical documentation, including procedures, illustrations, and manuals for Navy systems.
Create and edit content using tools such as Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Arbortext Editor, and IsoDraw 7.
Utilize the Navy Publishing Application (NPA) Contenta system to develop XML‑based documentation.
Interpret design documents, engineering drawings, procedures, and test specifications to produce accurate CSOSS procedures and diagrams.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and technical staff to gather and validate information.
Develop and maintain a database of Combat System and Training System configurations.
Conduct Quality Assurance (QA) reviews of technical documentation for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to CSOSS standards.
Support the CSOSS documentation lifecycle for Naval ship classes, including CVN, LHD, LHA, and LCS.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience using PTC Arbortext Editor and IsoDraw.
Minimum of 3 years of experience with the CSOSS processes and procedures.
Proven experience writing and editing XML‑based technical documentation in a defense or engineering environment.
Proficient with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office applications.
Experience working within structured content management systems (CMS), especially Contenta.
Familiarity with Navy ship systems is highly desirable.
Ability to read and interpret engineering diagrams and technical reports.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and quality control.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience documenting Navy systems or within defense contracting.
Working knowledge of Clarizen or other project management systems.
Education & Clearance Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a technical field, English, communications, or related discipline; or 5 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
Security clearance (requirements not specified in posting).
Physical Requirements Job performance will normally require only minor lifting and carrying of boxes of records or equipment.
