AbouttheRole
TheSeniorDirectorofLibrary,Archives,andCollectionsisapivotalleadershiproleresponsibleforthecomprehensiveoversight,strategicdirection,andoperationalmanagementofthelibrary,archives,digitalpreservation,andcollectionfunctions.Thisindividualwillchampionthepreservation,accessibility,andcurationofourresources,ensuringtheyalignwiththeorganization'smissionandservetheneedsofourdiversestakeholders.TheSeniorDirector willleadasdedicatedteam,fosterinnovation,andcultivatestronginternalandexternalpartnerships.
Responsibilities
Access,Outreach&Engagement:Collaboratewithpublicprograms,exhibitions,andeducationdepartmentstoenhancepublicaccessanddeveloppoliciesforcollectionaccessandexhibitionsthatpromotebroaderdiscoveryanduseofcollections.
CollectionsManagement&Stewardship:Overseecollectiondevelopment,acquisitions,documentation,cataloging,conservation,and digitization,andensurecompliancewithprofessional standardsandlegal/regulatoryrequirements.
TeamLeadership&Administration:Supervise,mentor,andsupportstaff,fosteringacollaborativeandinclusiveculture.
Fundraising&Development:Workwithdevelopmentteamstoidentifyandsecurefundingforcollections-basedinitiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’sdegreeinmuseumstudies,libraryscience,publichistory,orarelatedfieldORequivalenton-the-jobexperience.
Tenyearsofprogressiveexperienceworkinginamuseum,withampleleadershipandsupervisoryexperienceincluded.
Demonstratedleadershipabilitiesinformulatingdepartmentobjectives,settingpriorities,andworkingtoadvanceanorganization’sstrategicplan.
Highlydevelopedinterpersonalskillstomediate,collaborate,andcommunicatewithawidevarietyofpeoplewithadiverserangeofknowledgeandskillsanddiversebackgrounds,education,andinterests.
Fundamentalknowledgeanddemonstratedapplicationoflegalandethicalmuseumstandardsinareasofmuseumoperation,libraryoperation,historicalresearchandinterpretation,NAGPRA,basicconservationprinciples,audienceevaluation,collectionscareandmanagement,andexhibitdevelopment.
Broadknowledgeofhistoricalandmuseumtrends,strategicplanning,communication,marketing,programdevelopment/delivery,andnon-profitadministration.
RequiredSkills
FamiliaritywiththeMNHSAnditsprograms,includingtheMNHScharter,bylaws,missionstatement,andinstitutionalgoals.
ExperienceworkingwithNativeAmericansandTribalNationsinMinnesota.
