Responsibilities

Directly responsible to Coordinator of Special Education for assignment to schools and for supervision, development, and evaluation of professional functions.

Directly responsible to building principal or high school assistant principal for performance of delegated functions in the schools.

Facilitate learning and personality development through assessment and evaluation of students as prescribed by the State and District.

Testing, identification, certification, and periodic re‑evaluation of Educationally Handicapped, Educable and Trainable Mentally Retarded, and Academically Talented students.

Ordering, distributing, scheduling, monitoring, collecting, and analyzing group tests. Data analysis is presented to individual schools, district office, and the Board of Education.

Intellectual, achievement, personality, and perceptual motor testing of students referred by parents or school personnel.

Facilitate learning and personality development through behavior and learning management.

Analysis and remediation of behavior and learning problems by means of group and individual consultation.

Facilitate learning and personality development through educational research.

Research on educational problems such as the value of retention and acceleration, prediction of the success or failure in preschool children, effects of group counseling, behavior modification programs, etc.

Facilitate learning and personality development through in‑service training. In‑service training of school personnel in test construction and administration, growth and development of children, classroom management related to behavior problems, application of learning principles, etc.

Facilitate learning and personality development through enhancement of school‑community relations.

Presentations to PTA groups, parents of preschool children and other parent groups related to behavior management, discipline, parent‑child interaction, home‑school relationships, and learning principles.

Desirable Qualifications

Academic

Master’s degree

Pupil Personnel Services Credential with Specialization in School Psychology

Must have a valid California credential authorizing service as a School Psychologist

Teaching experience in elementary and/or secondary grades

Professional

Demonstrated ability to work with parents, teachers, principals, and students.

Related Experience
