Job Description PURPOSE AND SCOPE: The Specialist III, Library assists students, faculty and the general public in obtaining resources. Circulates library materials and maintains patron records using automated systems and iStar (PeopleSoft). May perform standard and some advanced administrative duties, including but not limited to receiving and logging information, making copies, sorting and distributing mail, preparing basic correspondence, answering routine questions and inquiries, providing information and directions, and providing a customer friendly environment. Interprets and enforces established library policies and procedures. Responsible for specialized service/area within library.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
Use automated systems and iStar (PeopleSoft) to perform circulation services.
Provide information and assistance to library visitors, serving as public contact for the library in person, by telephone and email, and refer patrons to reference librarians when additional assistance is needed.
Participate in the daily supervision and training of student assistants and part time staff.
Participate in the development of documentation for circulation procedures.
Collect money for fines and update patron records.
Assist library patrons in the use of copy machines, audiovisual equipment and digital microform reader printers.
Receive, sort and distribute mail and courier deliveries as assigned.
Interpret and enforce circulation policies and procedures for the public and for college staff.
Be responsible for operation of the Circulation Department in the absence of the Circulation Coordinator.
Maintain supplies and forms needed for the daily operation of the Department.
Participate in shelf reading, collection inventory project and facilities monitoring.
Perform one or more of the following specialized functions:
Web page design/maintenance
Equipment maintenance
Specialized library area maintenance—periodicals/reserves/legal documents
Usage reports/statistics/record tracking
Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Strong attention to detail and customer service skills.
Ability to use software products.
Ability to work on multiple projects.
Ability to document expenses.
Ability to work some nights and/or weekend shifts.
Physical Abilities The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Working Schedule And Conditions
Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment.
Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position.
Work is performed in a climate‑controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree or higher.
Salary Hiring salary range is $33,540 - $38,571. Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full‑time non‑faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
