Base pay range: $150,000.00/yr - $175,000.00/yr The Senior External Communications and Media Director leads enterprise-wide strategic communications, brand positioning, media relations, and market outreach to strengthen the organization’s reputation in established and emerging markets. This role oversees external communications functions—including media relations, crisis communications, government and industry engagement—while driving go-to-market strategies for new products, services, and business initiatives. Partnering closely with executive leadership and technical teams, the Director develops and executes integrated communications and marketing strategies that expand visibility, support market entry, and elevate the organization’s role as a global thought leader. The Director manages a distributed team, providing strategic direction, creative leadership, and operational oversight to ensure consistent, high-impact communications across all business units. The role collaborates with internal stakeholders to identify emerging opportunities, launch new offerings, and effectively position initiatives for market success. The Director also builds and strengthens relationships with key external partners, sector leaders, and media outlets to amplify the organization’s voice on the global stage. Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Leadership

Provide strategic oversight of all external communications activities and channels. Develop and track metrics to evaluate the success of communications, marketing, and brand initiatives. Work with executive leadership to position the organization as a thought leader through compelling content, storytelling, and brand strategies. Lead the Communications and Media function, guiding strategy, prioritization, budgeting, performance management, and professional development. Create and implement integrated communications strategies that strengthen the organization’s reputation, support new market entry, and drive uptake of new products and services. Partner with leaders across departments to address communications needs and priorities. Maintain and evolve shared standards and a unified, enterprise-wide approach to external communications. Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and media to promote communication excellence and introduce innovative approaches and tools. Thought Leadership, Brand, & Reputation Management

Identify opportunities to elevate thought leadership across digital, media, and industry platforms. Oversee brand management, including messaging, visual identity, and external representation, ensuring consistency and relevance across global audiences. Determine messaging, timing, and channels for major external announcements in alignment with organizational priorities. Lead or support go‑to‑market strategies for new offerings, ensuring the creation of compelling narratives and marketing materials. Develop sector‑specific communication approaches to position the organization as a trusted partner and technical leader. Media Relations & Industry Engagement

Oversee media strategy and serve as a primary spokesperson when appropriate. Build and sustain relationships with global media outlets and industry press to amplify organizational perspectives on innovation, impact, and sector trends. Engage with government stakeholders and industry groups to advance organizational interests and visibility. Crisis Communications & Issues Management

Maintain and implement crisis communications plans for internal and external needs. Serve as the communications lead during organizational crisis management efforts. Monitor reputational risks and guide response strategies across business units. Additional Responsibilities

Provide short‑term technical communications support across departments, including strategy and content development. Support business development efforts by contributing strategic communications guidance and proposal input. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field preferred. Significant experience leading strategic communications and market positioning for established organizations, high‑growth companies, or new ventures. Minimum 15 years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, with demonstrated success in global brand strategy, integrated marketing, and media relations. Experience in crisis communications and issues management strongly preferred. At least 10 years of experience managing and mentoring communications teams across multiple projects or departments. Proven success delivering complex, multi‑channel communications campaigns for broad or global distribution. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; able to work effectively with senior leaders, external partners, and diverse teams. Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, with experience presenting to leadership and facilitating high-level meetings. Strong organizational and analytical abilities, with the capacity to manage competing priorities and drive decision‑making based on data and strategic insight. Ability to manage significant budgets, resources, and organizational initiatives with accountability for results. Experience working in international or cross-cultural environments preferred.
