Qualifications

A doctorate in music is required (PhD, DMA, or DMus). ABD near completion will be considered; degree must be completed by start date. Foreign equivalent degrees from a nationally accredited institution accepted.

Responsibilities

Teaching requirement is typically 30 semester credit hours per year over three semesters. Subject areas/courses:

Music Theory

Music History

Ability to assist with one or more of the following:

Vocal‑studies training (e.g., applied voice in classical, musical theatre, and CCM styles)

Development of Pacific or Asian music program (e.g., directing an ensemble)

Music technology and sound production

Scholarship, creative endeavor, ongoing professional development, and university service are required.

Benefits

Salary range: 114K to 124K, depending on credentials, rank and experience.

Housing stipend.

A relocation expense package is provided.

Annually renewable contract eligible for Continuing Faculty Status (BYU‑H equivalent of “tenure‑track”).

Standard BYU‑Hawaii benefits package for regular full‑time employees.
