Head of Communications and Marketing - Law Firm
Our client, a global law firm in NYC, is looking for a Head of Communications & Marketing for a 12–15-month interim position working on the US region. The position will serve as a strategic leader within the firm, responsible for shaping and executing comprehensive communications and marketing strategies that elevate the firm’s brand, reputation, and business growth. This role requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in law firm communications, including extensive experience in external, internal, and crisis communications. The successful candidate will position the firm as a trusted advisor and leader in key practice areas, ensuring consistent messaging and engagement with clients, prospects, media, and internal stakeholders. They will provide strategic counsel to partners and leadership, oversee executive communications, and drive innovative public relations and digital marketing initiatives that reinforce the firm’s values, culture, and market positioning.
This is a 12–15-month interim position and requires 3-days/week onsite in Manhattan.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement integrated communications strategies for the US region to support the firm’s business objectives and enhance its market reputation.
Lead all external communications, including media relations, press releases, thought leadership, and crisis communications, ensuring timely and effective messaging.
Oversee internal communications to foster engagement, alignment, and a strong firm culture across offices and practice areas.
Provide strategic counsel to partners and leadership on communications, branding, and messaging.
Manage executive communications, including media briefings, speeches, presentations, and public engagements.
Oversee brand management, ensuring consistency in visual identity, messaging, and positioning across all channels.
Drive digital marketing and social media strategies to enhance visibility, thought leadership, and client engagement.
Collaborate with business development and marketing teams to support client acquisition and retention initiatives.
Manage external agencies, vendors, and internal communications staff to ensure high‑quality output and strategic alignment.
Monitor media coverage, industry trends, and competitor activity to inform strategic decisions.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years of experience in communications and marketing, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
Proven expertise in external, internal, and crisis communications.
Strong understanding of law firm branding, thought leadership, and market positioning.
Exceptional strategic thinking, leadership, and executive advisory skills.
Demonstrated experience managing high‑profile media relations and public relations campaigns.
Strong digital marketing and social media knowledge, with experience in integrated campaigns.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences.
Track record of leading teams and managing external vendors and agencies.
Ability to work collaboratively with partners, senior leadership, and cross‑functional teams.
