Director of Project Management – HSO Marketing
Mount Sinai Morningside – Full Time – Days (Mount Sinai Hospital) Position Title Director of Project Management – HSO Marketing – Mount Sinai Hospital – Full Time – Days Positions Summary The Director of Project Management serves as a senior operational leader within the Central Marketing and Communications Department and reports directly to the Assistant Vice President of Finance, Administration, and Operations. This role builds and sustains high‑performing project management practices, workflows, and methodologies that support the efficient execution of a diverse marketing and communications portfolio for a complex health care system. The Director partners closely with internal marketing teams, clinical and administrative leaders, and external vendors to drive operational excellence, create and optimize workflows, oversee project/program management processes, manage organizational change, and ensure quality, risk, and resource management across the department. The position includes direct supervision of at least one Project Manager and freelance resources. Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Management
Partner with department leadership to manage the full portfolio of marketing and communications work, ensuring prioritization aligned with organizational goals. Lead the design, implementation, and governance of systems, tools, and processes that enhance operational efficiency and support scalable, repeatable project delivery. Oversee the continuous improvement of project management methodologies, ensuring consistency and adoption across Traditional, Digital, Communications, Creative, and Press teams. Increase transparency into project status, timelines, risks, and resource utilization for all stakeholders. Operational Excellence
Develop and maintain workflows, SOPs, and process frameworks that streamline execution and improve cross‑functional collaboration. Implement dashboards, performance metrics, and reporting mechanisms to track departmental performance and workload trends. Evaluate demand, capacity, and resource allocation across teams to optimize utilization and maintain balanced workloads. Project & Program Oversight
Provide hands‑on project management leadership for high‑impact initiatives, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget, and high‑quality delivery. Identify operational risks, mitigation strategies, and change‑management needs, supporting leaders and team members through transitions. Ensure alignment of project management goals, processes, and performance standards with broader Health System priorities. Team Leadership & Development
Manage, mentor, and develop Project Management staff and freelance support, fostering a high‑performance culture centered on collaboration and accountability. Promote adoption of PM methodologies and tools through training, coaching, and ongoing stakeholder engagement. Role‑model professional integrity, service excellence, and respectful partnership with diverse internal and external teams. Qualifications Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in business/healthcare administration, Marketing, Communications, Project Management, or a related field required. Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MS in Project Management, or similar) strongly preferred. PMP certification required or strongly preferred. Additional certifications such as PgMP, PMI‑ACP, Lean Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt), or Prosci Change Management are highly desirable. Experience Requirements
5 years of experience in health care finance or administration; experience in strategic planning and execution, formulating policy, building and developing financial plans, managing resources and leading successful teams. 7–10+ years of project management experience, ideally in healthcare, hospital operations, or a complex, matrixed organization. 3–5 years of leadership experience managing project teams, PMO staff, or cross‑functional groups. Proven success leading large‑scale, multi‑departmental initiatives. Experience implementing and optimizing PM frameworks (PMBOK, Agile, Lean, Six Sigma). Demonstrated ability to improve operational or administrative workflows in healthcare or marketing environments. Strong background in resource planning, budget oversight, and portfolio prioritization. Experience in large healthcare systems or academic medical centers strongly preferred. Commitment to ongoing professional development in project management, change leadership, and operational excellence. Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency with project management software (e.g., Smart Sheet, Monday.com, MS Project). Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with Microsoft Teams.
