MSI Data
Lead Product Designer - AI Experiences
MSI Data, San Francisco, California, United States, 94199
MSI Data is launching a new, dedicated AI team with a singular mission: to disrupt the Field Service software category through AI-native solutions. We are moving beyond simple automation to create intelligent, conversational, and agentic experiences. As the
Lead Product Designer , you are not just "skinning" an application; you are the architect of our Product-Led Growth (PLG) motion. In our model,
design is the primary salesperson.
You are a foundational hire, joining early to champion a design-first culture in close partnership with Engineering and the Head of AI Product. Together, you will co-create the user experience from the ground up, blending technical innovation with human-centric design. Your focus will be on designing AI experiences that meet users where they are—across all channels and touchpoints. By identifying and breaking through common points of friction, you will drive adoption and ensure that complex AI capabilities feel accessible, intuitive, and immediately valuable.
Key Responsibilities
Architect the "Zero-to-One" Journey
You own the "First Mile" of the user experience. In a PLG model, if the customer cannot activate self-serve, we fail. You will design the end-to-end onboarding flow that guides a non-technical user to their "aha moment" in the shortest time possible. You will relentlessly remove friction, ensuring deployment is effortless.
Design for the "Dirty Hands" (The Field Reality)
Your user is not sitting at a desk; they are a technician in a van, on a roof, or in a basement. You will obsess over mobile-first usability. You will translate complex AI interactions into simple, large-touch-target interfaces that feel magical on a smartphone.
Make the Complex Invisible
You will translate the uncertainty of AI into an experience of trust and control. You must design interfaces that handle uncertainty gracefully. You won't just design an app; you will design the
interaction —how an AI agent suggests a fix, how a human accepts it, and how the system learns. You ensure the complexity is hidden, and the utility is front-and-center.
Partner in Pre-Construction
You are a strategic partner to the Head of AI Product. Together, you will map the entire value proposition and validate hypotheses through prototypes before we burden the engineering team. You prevent the team from building "engineer-led" software by establishing a "product-led" vision first.
Requirements
5+ Years of Product Design Experience:
You have a portfolio demonstrating complex B2B SaaS workflows distilled into simple mobile experiences. Experience in PLG (Product-Led Growth) environments is a plus.
A "Growth" Designer:
You understand that design is a GTM function. You don't just care about typography; you care about conversion rates, time-to-value, and activation metrics. You design to drive user behavior.
Empathy for the Non-Technical:
You can put yourself in the shoes of a field technician. You understand that "cool technology" is useless if it creates friction for the worker on the job site.
Rapid Prototyper:
You move fast. You can turn a fuzzy concept into a clickable prototype using the latest AI tools in 24 hours or less to test viability.
Collaborative yet Opinionated:
You are comfortable debating with the CEO and Product and Engineering leads. You will advocate for the user when business requirements threaten to clutter the interface.
Why Join Us?
Build a Design-First Culture:
We are hiring you before we rapidly scale the engineering team. This is a deliberate choice to ensure we build the
right
thing, not just the
feasible
thing.
Resources:
This is not a side project. This is a strategic priority with full CEO and Board commitment. You will have the resources to succeed.
Compensation
The base salary range for this position is
$195,000 – $265,000 . This range represents the expected salary range for candidates in
the San Francisco Bay Area . Actual offers may vary for candidates in other locations based on local market rates.
Beyond the Base:
Base pay is just one part of your total compensation. This role includes a
target annual bonus . Final compensation packages are tailored to the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location.
