Principal Consultant – Content Strategy
*This role is based in our Charlotte Slalom Market*
As a Principal Consultant in Content Strategy at Slalom, you will help enterprise clients transform content from a cost center into a business asset. You’ll lead the development of content strategies that are data‑informed, modular, reusable, and scalable—designed to serve users and drive measurable business outcomes across the full digital ecosystem. This is a highly visible, senior, client‑facing leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of
structured content design ,
governance , and
cross‑functional collaboration . You will guide clients in modernizing how content is planned, created, delivered, and optimized across platforms, markets, and channels—including websites, commerce platforms, mobile apps, social media, and emerging AI interfaces.
What You’ll Do Strategic Planning & Alignment
Define visions for future‑state content that aligns to business goals, user needs, and brand identity
Conduct content audits, user research, and stakeholder interviews to assess content performance and inform strategy
Identify opportunities to reduce complexity, increase consistency, and support omnichannel storytelling
Content Modeling, Taxonomy & Metadata
Design structured content models and reusable content types to support omnichannel delivery and personalization at scale
Lead taxonomy and metadata strategies that improve UX, search, content governance, and localization efficiency
Enable the use of headless CMS platforms (e.g., Contentful) through robust content modeling and modular design
Content Operations & Governance
Map content workflows across the lifecycle: creation → review → publishing → archival
Define governance frameworks, roles, and responsibilities that clarify ownership and ensure content quality
Support change management and tool adoption by creating documentation and training content authors and stakeholders
Optimization, UX & SEO Integration
Partner with UX, SEO, marketing, and analytics teams to ensure content supports user journeys and conversion
Implement tagging and keyword optimization strategies to support discoverability and search performance (SEO, AEO, AIO)
Use analytics to define KPIs and optimize content performance through continuous iteration
Platform Integration & Migration Support
Align content strategy with platform capabilities (e.g., Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Adobe Experience Manager, Sitecore)
Provide strategic guidance on CMS migrations, platform evaluations, and content enablement for DXP ecosystems
Thought Leadership & Practice Growth
Contribute to Slalom’s content strategy POVs, tools, and service offerings
Represent Slalom in workshops, conferences, and industry events
Support opportunity shaping and proposal development by bringing a content‑first lens to pre‑sales and pursuits
Team Leadership & Talent Development
Mentor junior and mid‑level strategists and support their growth through coaching and knowledge sharing
Collaborate with designers, engineers, product managers, and marketers in interdisciplinary delivery teams
Foster an inclusive, creative team environment that celebrates experimentation, diversity, and shared learning
What We’re Looking For
10+ years of experience in content strategy, content design, or content operations
3+ years in a consulting or agency environment, working with enterprise clients across industries
Proven success designing and implementing structured, enterprise‑scale content strategies
Deep experience in taxonomy, metadata, and structured content modeling for headless CMS platforms
Expertise in content workflows, governance, SEO/AEO/AIO strategies, and performance measurement
Comfort working in cross‑functional environments with product, design, tech, and marketing
Strong storytelling and facilitation skills with executive presence
Familiarity with platforms such as Contentful, AEM, Sitecore, and Salesforce Commerce Cloud
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s degree a plus

Slalom is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.
For this position, the base salary pay range is $110,000 to $171,000. In addition, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
Actual compensation will depend upon an individual’s skills, experience, qualifications, location, and other relevant factors. The salary pay range is subject to change and may be modified at any time.
