Purpose Statement/Position Summary Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is a nationally recognized leader in pediatric healthcare, known for its best‑in‑class marketing and communications function. We are seeking a strategic and visionary leader to fill the role of Executive Director of Strategic Marketing. This pivotal role will drive the strategic development, execution, and optimization of comprehensive marketing efforts, clinical marketing campaigns, service line marketing campaigns, brand promotion, and agency management initiatives that align with the institution’s ambitious growth and business objectives. As a key member of CHLA’s MarCom leadership team, you will oversee all aspects of the consumer decision journey—from awareness to loyalty—focusing on increasing patient family engagement and developing strategic partnerships for CHLA.
Responsibilities include crafting and executing innovative, data‑driven marketing campaigns that resonate with patients, donors, referrers and healthcare providers, while ensuring alignment with CHLA’s strategic goals. You will collaborate with the Strategy Team and develop and deploy enterprise marketing and growth activities aligned with the Enterprise Strategic Plan. You will oversee the development of a national and market‑based pre‑patient journey strategy, manage growth campaigns for Destination and Global Health, Ambulatory Care, and Healthy Balance initiatives, and manage an Integrated and Brand Marketing Team in partnership with Digital and Communications teams. You will also oversee external agencies and protect and promote CHLA’s brand.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the strategic development, execution, and optimization of marketing campaigns and clinical marketing referral campaigns, ensuring alignment with CHLA’s growth objectives.
Strategically allocate marketing resources to maximize impact, ROI, and donor engagement across diverse target audiences.
Drive business growth by continuously monitoring, adapting, and enhancing campaign performance based on KPIs, while integrating insights from industry trends.
Demonstrate ability to create strategic partnerships with media, consumer groups, and non‑profit organizations.
Oversee and mentor the marketing strategy and teams, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence while evolving team roles and capabilities.
Develop and sustain strong cross‑functional partnerships with senior leaders, clinical teams, and business units, ensuring strategic alignment and leveraging insights to enhance future marketing and fundraising initiatives.
Required Qualifications
10+ years’ experience driving successful marketing efforts in a matrixed organization.
Strong business acumen and understanding of digital media, online advertising platforms and related metrics.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically about the institution’s multi‑faceted objectives and effectively develop and implement marketing plans.
Ability to understand the motivations, buying patterns and psychographics for target audiences.
Experience in digital marketing (a plus).
Solid knowledge applying qualitative and quantitative research methodologies with deep understanding of digital methods and techniques for online marketing and lead generation.
Fluent in data retrieval and analytics tools and methods (e.g., Google Analytics).
Demonstrated success in ground‑up customer growth and engagement strategies, including building and managing customer acquisition strategies.
Well‑versed in marketing fundamentals: social media marketing, SEO/SEM, CRM, AB testing, landing page optimization, customer segmentation, customer journey maps, etc.; ability to think creatively and strategically.
Passion for pediatric healthcare and commitment to the hospital's mission and values.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
Experience working collaboratively with cross‑functional teams and managing relationships with external partners.
Preferred Qualifications
Academic medicine healthcare experience, especially in pediatric academic medicine.
AMC marketing experience (pediatrics strongly preferred).
Education / Licensure / Certification Required:
Bachelor’s Degree.
Preferred Education / Certifications
Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field.
Strong digital marketing and data‑driven expertise.
Pay Scale Information:
$178,360.00 – $305,760.00. Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on education and experience. Additional pay may be determined for candidates that exceed the specified qualifications and requirements.
