Surgical Authorization Specialist Location: King of Prussia

Overview Premier Orthopaedics, in partnership with Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgical Authorization Specialist to join our team at the King of Prussia office. Position Summary The Surgical Authorization Specialist is responsible for processing surgical referrals, verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, and securing prior authorizations. This role requires strong organizational skills, effective customer service, and the ability to work independently while reviewing patient and insurance information. This is a full‑time position with Monday through Friday hours.

Key Responsibilities

Monitors authorizations for upcoming surgical cases to ensure they are obtained accurately and in a timely manner.

Verifies patient demographic information and insurance eligibility, including coordination of benefits.

Updates and confirms required information to support insurance claims processing.

Verifies benefits for all surgical procedures.

Documents authorization status and progress in the patient’s chart and enters all information into case management systems.

Communicates effectively with physicians, patients, co‑workers, and both internal and external customers.

Partners with the department manager to address and reduce complaints professionally and promptly.

Assists surgery schedulers with STAT authorizations.

Qualifications

A minimum of 2 years of experience in the healthcare field is required and previous experience in referrals/authorizations, front office, and/or charge posting is required.

Working knowledge of insurance websites.

Effective organization and billing requirements and authorization processes.

Education

High school diploma or GED required.

Licenses & Certifications

None required.

Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients, and the public, and establish positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
