Talascend is currently seeking an Automotive Exterior Designer 1 for a contract opportunity located in San Diego, CA.
OVERVIEW:
The primary function is the exterior design development of two-dimensional representations of future company products by collaborating with all functions of the design process to create the required deliverables.
Day to Day - Similar to school: given a design brief, conduct research about the product, market, consumer, narrow down to the ideal persona, and communicate with product planning.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Job Functions (including but not limited to):
- Responsible for the two-dimensional representation and development of future automotive exterior designs.
- Develop new and unique proposals in sketches, digital sketches, visual 3D models, renderings, and other media to illustrate both individual and department designs.
- Assist the 3D modeling department in interpreting exterior designs into three-dimensional forms while incorporating engineering parameters.
- Communicate with Engineering and Design Leadership to create feasible production proposals.
- Work in a fast-paced, dual-brand, multiple-project environment with high responsibility for each designer.
- Create presentations and communicate design proposals visually and verbally.
- Stay informed about automotive design trends, current technology, and regulations.
- Work outside standard hours to collaborate globally as needed.
- Travel may be occasional, domestically or internationally.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must include a URL with at least four automotive exterior design projects showcasing complex and future shapes.
- Excellent sketching, visual communication, graphic presentation, and conceptual storytelling skills.
- Proficiency in digital modeling and animation tools.
- 0 to 3 years of experience in an automotive design studio.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Transportation or Industrial Design (no other degrees considered).
- Strong manual drawing ability and creativity reflecting brand identity.
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Autodesk Alias, Sub-D, VRED, Blender, and VR tools.
- Portfolio submission required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with video creation in After Effects is a plus.
- Minimal travel required; passport needed.
- Design experience beyond software skills, including basic 3D modeling in Blender.
