POSITION SUMMARY:
The Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library seeks to fill a position for the GLAM Education Curator. The GLAM Center for Collaborative Teaching and Learning was established to bring together the art and archival collections of the Atlanta University Center for engagement and learning. The GLAM center includes the AUC Woodruff Library art collection, the Archives Research Center, and collaborative partnerships with Clark Atlanta University's Art Museum and Spelman College's Museum of Fine Art. The person selected for this position will be responsible for the daily operations of the GLAM Center, AUC GLAM faculty engagement strategies, maintaining the AUC GLAM Center's digital portal, serving as a liaison to the visual arts and curatorial studies programs across the AUC Campuses, and curating the AUC Woodruff Library's art collection. The Education Curator is responsible for actively cultivating and maintaining professional relationships with AUC teaching faculty and AUC museum staff on behalf of the library. This is done through the facilitation of faculty development workshops, faculty consultations, and User Design studies.
The position will oversee the implementation and maintenance of a wide range of technologies to support the ADC GLAM Center, including the GLAM Center WordPress digital exhibit and collections page, Google Analytics, and GLAM LibGuides, as well as overseeing exhibit design within the AUC Woodruff Library's exhibit spaces. This position will work closely with the
Web Services Coordinator, contract software developers, and the Digital Services Department to project manage the redevelopment of the AUC GLAM portal. The Education Curator plays a critical role in making the AUC GLAM Center a platform for creativity, critical thinking, curricular learning, and cultural engagement. This position will report to the Director of the Archives Research Center.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Liaison and Research Support: Serve as the primary library liaison to departments and programs in Art and Visual Culture, supporting various curricular, performance, and scholarly needs. Provide expert research assistance, instruction, and collection development in visual art, and interdisciplinary arts. Integrate information literacy and research strategies into arts-based courses and workshops, adapting content for both academic and studio-based learning. Develop and maintain subject-specific guides, and instructional content tailored to the needs of AUC students and faculty. Collaborate with faculty to embed culturally relevant library support into courses, performance-based projects, and capstone experiences. Conceptualize, design, and direct program and engagement strategies that align with the mission and values of the AUC Woodruff Library to strengthen student and faculty engagement. Partner with the faculty and museum education staff to support library-museum initiatives, visual culture programs, exhibitions, and events across AUC institutions. Work with faculty development offices to design curriculum and training across multiple disciplines for inclusion in the GLAM Center digital portal. Conceptualize, design, and direct engagement strategies that align with the mission and values of the Library to strengthen student and faculty engagement. Integrate data collection, measurement, and assessment into GLAM's programs and digital portal; analyze metrics to inform reports, evaluations, and funding proposals. Emphasize cross-disciplinary, hands-on learning projects that expand understanding of the art and archival collections. Works with the Museum Education Curators across the AUC campus, librarians and museum directors to identify and describe collection materials for uploading onto shared digital portal in all formats, preparation of an electronic finding aid, catalog records, indexes, and database maintenance. Implements and maintains a wide range of technologies to support the AUC GLAM Portal and online exhibitions. Curation and Collection Management
Manage and curate public spaces in the AUC Woodruff Library with art and archival collections. Curate the AUC Woodruff Library's art collection. Curate and manage physical and digital collections, media displays, digital exhibitions, and other initiatives to allow for audience engagement. Work collaboratively to identify and describe collection materials for upload onto the digital portal, including metadata creation, finding aids, catalog records, and database maintenance. Conduct research to accurately identify, date, and describe objects, documents, and publications. Public Engagement & Interpretation
Contribute to public programming, exhibitions, and partnerships that highlight the artistic achievements of the African American community. Collaborate with the Director of Archives to develop educational and interpretive components of exhibitions and related programs. QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or a discipline relevant to the Arts, Public Humanities, Museum Studies, or related field, and/or a relevant combination of training and experience. Three years of experience in designing or curating art or archival exhibitions. Three to five years of experience teaching or educating various groups and creating learning objectives/programs. Two plus years of supervisory experience, including establishing workflow, training, and providing performance feedback. Familiarity with current museum and archival theory, practice and standards. Ability to work effectively with academic and collections staff at all levels to build rapport and ensure effective communication and mutual trust. Excellent inter-personal, oral and written communication skills Excellent organizational and analytical skills Accuracy and attention to detail Demonstrated skill to implement and adapt to change and balance multiple tasks and work priorities in a fast-paced environment Ability to take initiative and be accountable for results Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team Demonstrated commitment to working in a culturally diverse environment PREFERRED:
E-Learning Instructional Design and Development Certificate (Preferred) and/or relevant work experience. An M.A. in Art History or a discipline relevant to the Arts, Public Humanities, Museum Studies, or related field and/or a relevant combination of training and experience. Library collection development. Knowledge of best practices in education, pedagogical approaches, and accessibility standards. Knowledge of 20th century African American art, history, literature and culture Experience supporting and maintaining library systems or institutional repositories. Familiarity with digital collection management software systems including EmbARK or The Museum System (TMS) Ability to deliver creative content on social media platforms. Knowledge and experience with project management techniques and tools including software.
