Library Material Handler
The Library Material Handler contributes to fulfilling the goals of the organization by ensuring materials are processed efficiently and effectively through our distribution channels making them readily available for library patrons. This is a non-benefited position with a flexible schedule of up to 19 hours a week requiring some evening and weekend hours. The salary range for this position is $15.16 - $16.83 hourly, depending on qualifications and experience. This opportunity will be available to applicants until Friday December 12, 2025, 12:00 P.M. M.S.T. A current resume is required, and a cover letter is preferred. Essential Functions: Sort and shelve books, audio visual materials and magazines. Process daily shipments and materials. Shelf reading library materials to ensure correct placement. Empty sorted book bins onto carts according to specific guidelines. Pull and process material holds and courier returns. Check returned materials for missing items. Check in items. Other Job Functions: Pull material including patron holds. Shelve daily newspapers. Inspect media materials for repair. Assist with special projects. Performs other duties as assigned. Job Level and Management Expectations: There are no supervisory or management expectations in this role. Qualifications: Education: Required: High School Diploma or GED Experience: Preferred: 1 year of closely related experience. Previous experience with computers and systems or library circulation software preferred but not required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of Dewey decimal system. Ability to follow instructions. Must work independently. Complete tasks on time and adapt to a changing library environment. Spanish language proficiency preferred. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Works in a fast-paced, public library sorting room and library floor. This is a highly physical position that includes frequent standing, walking, moving, lifting materials up to 30 lbs. and positioning bins up to 50 lbs.; bending and reaching up to shelve materials on shelves from 5 inches to 80 inches above the floor. Exposure to routine office noises and the sounds of moving equipment. Frequent: Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs) and use of medium weight tools. Working Environment: Frequent: Exposure to routine office noise and equipment.
