Position Summary
The Reference, Instruction, and Student Engagement (RISE) Librarian, reporting to the Library Director, leads the Library's instruction program. This role develops and implements student engagement and instructional strategies aligned with the college's curricular and pedagogical needs. The RISE Librarian will also promote library resources and services. Responsibilities include providing library instruction, collaborating with faculty, creating research guides, and assessing instructional programs. Additionally, the Librarian organizes student engagement activities such as presentations, events, and displays/bulletin boards. Reference duties include assisting faculty, staff, students, and the public.
This position is responsible for creating, disseminating, and assessing information literacy instruction for assigned subject areas. Collaborating with other CWC departments, student groups, and faculty to build partnerships and promote library services to a wider audience. Conduct surveys and focus groups to collect feedback from patrons regarding their needs and preferences to tailor specific programming and instructional opportunities to enhance learning outcomes. Analyze library usage data and feedback to assess the effectiveness of marketing efforts pertaining to programming and instruction. The library operates under a team-based structure; library staff perform multiple roles that can include responsibilities in technical services, public services, and/or user instruction.

- Provide reference service including research assistance and basic circulation functions
- Participate in general reference responsibilities and student research consultations in person, on the phone, through email, and via chat.
- Provide aid with basic circulation functions such as checking in and out books or renewals at the front desk as needed.
- Collaborate with other departments, college divisions, committees, and librarians on generating effective library programming.
- Assist with library orientations, workshops and student engagement activities throughout the academic year addressing various formats and research needs for both our on-campus and outreach locations.
- Create tools, research guides (Libguides), activities and visuals to enhance information literacy offering.
- Work with the Writing Center to assist students with all needs associated with writing including reference services.
- Conduct surveys and focus groups to collect feedback from patrons regarding their needs and preferences to tailor specific programming and instructional opportunities to enhance learning outcomes.
- Develop student-centered initiatives responsive to the changing College curriculum.
- Leads the design and implementation of campus outreach programs that engage students, faculty, and staff with Library initiatives.
- Actively participates as an effective member of the team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.

- MA in any discipline.

- Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Master's Degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited school.
- 2 years working at an academic college
- OR a combination of experience and education is allowed
- Creativity, initiative, and interest in innovative approaches to research/reference assistance, library instruction, and liaison work.
- Demonstrate understanding of issues and trends in reference and information literacy.
- Must be self-directed and able to assess current operations in an effort to develop practical action programs to improve the functioning of the department.
- Demonstrate excellence in communication skills both oral and written, with the ability to foster positive working relations and build partnerships.
- Effective time, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative team.
- Knowledge of ACRL Framework of Information Literacy for Higher Education.
- Emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in academic librarianship, instructional design, and outcomes-based assessment practices as well as policies and procedures specific to academic libraries.
- Understanding of Information literacy, data literacy, and research practices for higher education.
- Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and other applicable laws pertaining to employment and education;
- Deliver exceptional customer service and to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
- Multi-task, organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion;
- Effectively identify and resolve problems related to every-day administrative operations;
- Perform basic mathematical and statistical calculations;
- Maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive administrative information;
- Develop effective working relationships with supervisors, faculty, staff, students, and the public;

- This position operates under the direct supervision of the Director of the Library.
