Director, Global Library Services (Hybrid) Position is hybrid, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Responsibilities Lead the transformation of Global Library Services into a digital‑first, data‑enabling capability that powers scientific decision‑making across R&D. Oversee end‑to‑end library processes—from user requests and content needs assessment to deliverable development and consumption—aligning them with modern standards. Align library services and systems with Takeda’s enterprise and R&D digital and data strategy, including integration with AI, automation, and scalable delivery platforms. Manage global operations, vendor relationships, and knowledge platforms to ensure timely, compliant, and cost‑effective access to scientific and technical information. Provide subject‑matter expertise and thought leadership on digital library trends, scholarly publishing, and copyright‑compliant AI usage. Integrate innovative knowledge‑management technologies such as machine learning and natural language processing to drive impactful scientific decision‑making. Design and implement engagement initiatives and feedback loops to continuously improve library services and user satisfaction. Measure library services systems, usage, and impact to inform responsible budgeting and spending. Develop and deliver training programs on effective use of library resources, research tools, and information literacy skills. Accountabilities & Core Elements Senior leader within Library Services acting as Takeda’s representative for external partnerships and high‑profile internal collaborations. Drive strategic vision for library transformation and ensure integration with pharmaceutical industry standards. Manage a complex budget, negotiate vendor contracts, and ensure cost efficiency. Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders (legal, procurement, IT, end‑users) to assess needs and make data‑driven decisions. Build and mentor a remote/hybrid team of librarians and digital experts. Lead change management initiatives and influence stakeholders to adopt new knowledge‑management tools. Technical/Functional Expertise Proven experience leading digital transformation projects and implementing emerging information systems. Hands‑on knowledge of bibliographic databases and discovery platforms (Embase, PubMed, Dialog, RightFind Enterprise, etc.). Experience with AI, machine learning, text mining, APIs, metadata, and NLP in a library context. Familiarity with electronic databases, scientific journals, e‑books, and industry standards. Leadership & Management Articulate a forward‑looking vision and foster an innovation‑driven culture. Guide teams toward strategic initiatives and ensure alignment with broader knowledge‑sharing goals. Demonstrate experience managing remote or hybrid teams. Decision‑Making & Autonomy Analyze problems, identify solutions, and make informed decisions to improve library services and operations. Leverage data‑driven insights for continuous improvement. Interaction & Influence Communicate effectively with global stakeholders, staff, and administrators. Influence stakeholders and build trust without formal authority. Innovation & Complexity Adapt to evolving technologies and community needs in the library landscape. Champion emerging technologies such as NLP, AI, and text mining. Collect, analyze, and interpret usage data to inform decision‑making. Promote an inclusive environment and ensure accessibility for a diverse global user base. Education & Competencies MLIS or MS in life sciences preferred. Minimum 12 years of direct experience in a pharmaceutical, healthcare, or science library. Success in leading digital transformation of library systems, including API delivery and cloud‑based content platform integration. Experience with advanced technologies such as machine learning, AI, and data analytics. In‑depth knowledge of copyright laws and licensing agreements for digital content and AI. Compensation and Benefits Salary: $174,500.00 – $274,230.00 (U.S. based). Eligible for short‑term and long‑term incentives, medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan with company match, disability coverage, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, paid volunteer time off, holidays, well‑being benefits, and up to 80 hours sick time.
