KPNX, the NBC affiliate in Phoenix, AZ, is seeking an experienced and dynamic morning Traffic Anchor/MSJ to deliver urgent and up‑to‑the‑minute traffic conditions. This position is ideal for a journalist with a strong on‑air presence, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping viewers start their day informed and prepared. The role also includes leading coverage on transportation in Phoenix – road safety, traffic data, construction projects, and airport and aviation.
Responsibilities
- Deliver clear, engaging, and accurate live traffic reports during morning newscasts.
- Provide real‑time updates during breaking traffic and weather situations.
- Create and present transportation content for 12+ and other digital/streaming shows.
- Collaborate with producers, reporters, and the assignment desk to ensure comprehensive coverage.
- Engage with viewers across social media and digital platforms.
- Assist with gathering information, writing scripts, and contributing to editorial discussions.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of on‑air experience in a professional broadcast newsroom.
- Previous traffic anchoring experience strongly preferred.
- Strong live ad‑libbing skills and the ability to communicate with clarity and confidence.
- Solid editorial judgment and the ability to operate in fast‑paced, high‑pressure environments.
- Experience with traffic systems, mapping software, and newsroom tools.
- A collaborative spirit and commitment to TEGNA’s innovative, audience‑first approach.
- Ability to work early morning hours.
