Technical Production Artist (Contract) – Packaging & Labeling
Location: On-site, San Francisco, CA
Contract Duration: 3 months with potential for extension
Pay Rate: $35/hr
About the Role
We’re seeking a highly skilled Technical Production Artist (Contractor) to support our Packaging & Labeling team in producing precise, print‑ready mechanicals for the ON packaging and labeling redesign. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, expert‑level Adobe skills, and a deep understanding of packaging production processes to ensure flawless execution.
You’ll work closely with cross‑functional partners to interpret artwork versions, incorporate updates, maintain consistency, and uphold the highest degree of quality across all deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop accurate, print‑ready mechanical files for packaging and labeling as part of the ON redesign initiative.
- Collaborate with the Associate Manager, TPA to understand current file‑building processes, receive guidance, and troubleshoot mechanical challenges.
- Partner with the Marketing Coordinator to execute artwork updates, maintain accurate codes/descriptions, and stay aligned on proofing deadlines.
- Work with the Manager, P&L to support cross‑functional communication and resolve packaging/labeling‑related issues.
- Ensure all files meet production standards, brand guidelines, and printer specifications.
- Identify and proactively solve production concerns while supporting creative intent.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously with a sense of urgency and strong organizational skills.
- Maintain exceptionally high quality and accuracy across all deliverables.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge
- Strong understanding of packaging design, pre‑press workflows, and printing processes.
- Familiarity with packaging substrates, finishing techniques, and structural development.
Skills
- Expert proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
- Proficiency in Excel, Outlook, and Box.com.
- Impeccable attention to detail and commitment to delivering flawless work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage time effectively.
- Proactive problem‑solving mindset and ability to identify production challenges.
- Strong design sensibility and ability to work confidently with die lines and packaging systems.
- Ability to contribute to a collaborative, high‑performing team environment.
- Comfort seeking feedback and adapting to change.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Design or a related field preferred.
Experience
- Demonstrated experience building packaging and labeling mechanicals in a production‑focused environment.
