Role Summary
Principal Motion Designer within the Venmo Experience Design (XD) team. In this role you shape how millions of users experience Venmo across platforms and form factors, partnering with cross‑functional teams to influence strategic design from concept to delivery.
Essential Responsibilities
Establish overall business or technical strategy for user experience initiatives.
Negotiate and influence decision‑making at the senior executive level.
Identify and resolve unique, high‑impact situations in UI or interaction design.
Allocate resources responsibly while applying creativity to enhance user and customer experiences across digital and physical products and services.
Lead the development of user experience strategies that resonate with target audiences.
Support and mentor less‑experienced team members to foster innovation, excellence, and continuous learning.
Additional Responsibilities And Preferred Qualifications
Provide motion design leadership by implementing best practices in process and methodology, delivering against business and customer needs.
Guide motion design efforts across teams, including strategy, planning, and presentation to senior staff and stakeholders.
Leverage and extend Design System assets in motion design deliverables.
Contribute to the wider design community, mentoring others and driving design excellence.
Composite and render motion graphics to support product needs.
Develop UI motion behaviors and animations that orient, guide, and delight customers.
Ensure brand consistency across all visual outputs.
Make data‑driven design decisions and champion inclusive design best practices.
Collaborate with other cross‑functional Design team members, including Research, Content Design, Design Operations, Branding, Business, and Engineering stakeholders.
Your Qualifications
10–12+ years in a digital design role with a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in motion design, UX, product design, visual design, research, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
Expertise in concepting and delivering unique motion/animation, 3D rendering, and visual design for digital product/app contexts.
Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator), Cinema 4D or Blender, Figma or comparable prototyping tools, Lottie, and emerging interactive design trends.
Knowledge of media file compression, viewing specifications, and delivery formats.
Exceptional craft, taste, and product intuition with awareness of future trends and technologies.
Deep knowledge of the product design lifecycle and facilitation of workshops to drive momentum.
Experience designing and building flexible motion artifacts and guidelines.
Demonstrated expertise in hierarchy and interaction design with meticulous attention to detail.
Portfolio of exemplary design work showcasing significant motion design contributions.
Strong communication, storytelling, and educational skills to engage diverse audiences.
Proven leadership and team‑player mindset with collaborative drive across all design, product, and engineering disciplines.
Ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment.
Recognition of the confidence gap and imposter syndrome and a commitment to fostering inclusive hiring.
Compensation
The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is $188,000 to $323,950. PayPal offers competitive total compensation including annual performance bonuses, equity, and comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and other benefits. Further details are provided at PayPal Benefits .
