Student Employment - Religious & Spiritual Life Assistant /Music Leader
Position Type:
Student
Department:
Religious and Spiritual Life
Job Summary:
The Music Leader will be responsible for assembling the Chapel Worship Band, leading rehearsals, and leading the band in Chapel Worship. The position will include a set number of hours throughout the year for rehearsals and Chapel Worship, with a few extra hours required on occasion at the beginning of the semester for initially organizing the band. An understanding of the basic principles of music and musicianship, along with an understanding of how to lead/direct musicians in both rehearsal and worship are important. The Music Leader will work under the supervision of the Religious and Spiritual Life Administrative Assistant and serve as a member of the Religious and Spiritual Life staff. They must be committed to the Religious and Spiritual Life program and demonstrate support by assisting other staff members. This non-work study position requires a commitment for the entire academic year.
Principal Responsibilities
Recruit the Worship Band for each semester. This may require some work to be done during the Spring/Summer in order to be ready for the following fall semester. Outreach to incoming students to recruit band members should be prioritized in the fall.
Lead the Worship Band in selecting appropriate music for worship and coordinating the musical aspects of worship with the theme and scripture for each season/week. Report the band's choices to the religious and spiritual life staff via the online planning center.
Lead the Worship Band in weekly rehearsals of the music selected for that week's Chapel Worship.
Lead the Worship Band during Chapel Worship.
