Job Description:
LPC is seeking a Director of Music and Worship in a full‑time capacity. The Director of Music and Worship is a man who, in conjunction with the senior pastor, plans and implements the music and worship liturgy of LPC. The objective is to equip the congregation to “sing a new song” in vibrant, biblical worship, appropriately incorporating and preserving classic hymnody with the mindful use of new, rich hymns and songs to balance and to blend a robust spectrum of confessional worship in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:24 ).
Our worship follows the historic Presbyterian lineage of the Protestant Reformation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the pastors in the preparation of the weekly worship liturgy, utilizing biblical themes, readings, confessions, prayers, hymns, songs, and choir anthems that complement the sermon text.
- Direct and lead music for worship services.
- Prepare musical portions of the weekly worship guide and projections using current software.
- Plan and implement liturgy for special services, including but not limited to Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Christmas Eve.
- Rehearse with the worship team in preparation for worship services.
- Communicate faithfully with the pastors, staff, and Worship Committee.
- Supervise interns and the A/V Coordinator who participate in LPC music services.
- Recruit, equip, motivate, supervise, and shepherd volunteer music team leaders and musicians.
- Educate the congregation towards a better understanding of classical and modern hymnody.
- Develop and manage the music ministry budget.
- Oversee the maintenance and care of church instruments (e.g., cleaning, tuning).
- Participate in the life and ministry of the church.
- Direct an adult choir (this shall include selection of appropriate music, development of existing members of the choir, and recruitment of new members).
- Work towards the development of a youth/children’s choir program.
- Concerts: As resourcing permits, plan, promote, and host a concert series with Christian‑based musicians and groups.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Oversee the preparation of worship slides for projection.
- Oversee A/V media on website and social media (apple podcasts, etc).
- Personal Development/Resource: Stay abreast with the latest resources that discuss congregational worship and music ministry.
- Oversee sound and technical aspects of worship.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
- A commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and to the doctrinal standards of the PCA as articulated in the Westminster Confession of Faith and catechisms.
- A clear call to music ministry with experience, expertise, and passion for worship.
- Broad knowledge of Christian worship music across multiple styles and generational tastes.
- Ability to lead congregation singing with voice and accompanying instrument (piano and/or guitar).
- Degree(s) in music preferred.
- Familiarity with software such as Planning Center, Microsoft Office, music notation software, and Church Center.
- Ability to coordinate, motivate, and shepherd musicians and technical team members.
- Dependable, responsible, self‑motivated, and creative.
- Experience working in a church‑based music ministry with choirs and worship teams is highly desired. Prior experience in church music ministry preferred.
