Role Description
Givebutter is a fun brand with a serious mission. The Brand Design team brings that combination to life across every channel. The Creative Director will lead the evolution of our brand language and its expression across product, marketing, and events over the next several years. This is a hands‑on leadership role. You'll shape creative direction for a growing team while personally making the creative calls that ensure our work is inspiring, culturally relevant, and unmistakably Givebutter. We’re looking for someone who connects creative work to impact, who can balance elevated craft with practical execution, and who understands that great design makes changemakers proud to use our platform.
Responsibilities
- Define and evolve Givebutter's visual language across brand, marketing, product, events, and digital experiences.
- Direct our growing team of designers and creatives, and manage relationships with external agencies, freelance specialists, and production vendors.
- Build scalable creative systems (templates, brand guidelines, asset libraries) that maintain quality while enabling speed.
- Art‑direct photography, video, motion, and illustration work—from briefing through final delivery.
- Partner cross‑functionally with Marketing, Product, and Leadership to align creative vision with business goals.
- Be a key driver on a wide range of brand activations and experiences.
- Translate nonprofit impact into emotionally resonant visual stories that build long‑term brand equity.
- Champion the use of AI tools for rapid prototyping and creative exploration while maintaining high craft standards.
Qualifications
- Have 8+ years of design and creative leadership experience with a strong design‑oriented portfolio showing brand identity, campaigns, art direction, and systems work.
- Can personally execute high‑quality design work when needed while also leading and developing a team.
- Connect creative decisions to mission and metrics. You make the “why” as compelling as the “what”.
- Thrive in high‑growth environments where you balance craft with velocity, knowing when to push for excellence and when to ship.
- Can effectively art‑direct work across different media (photography, motion, video, events).
- Bring equal enthusiasm to flagship moments and scalable systems.
- Maintain a strong network of illustrators, photographers, directors, editors, and production vendors.
Bonus Points
- Experience leading brand work at consumer brands.
- Track record building creative operations from scratch in scaling organizations.
- Deep familiarity with nonprofit operations and the fundraising landscape.
- Direct experience with motion design and video production.
