Position Overview Tusk Strategies is seeking a Vice President to lead high-impact communications and public affairs campaigns for companies shaping the future of technology, AI, and innovation. This role sits at the intersection of advanced tech, policy, and storytelling – helping clients navigate complex regulatory environments, build compelling narratives, and execute campaigns that influence public perception and policy outcomes.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned communications strategist with deep experience supporting fast-growing or highly regulated industries, and who thrives in fast-moving, high-stakes environments. This role requires someone who can translate sophisticated technologies into accessible narratives, build integrated campaign strategies, and manage complex client needs with precision.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Client Management

Serve as day-to-day lead for client accounts, acting as the primary liaison and coordinating across internal teams to ensure flawless execution.

Develop big-picture strategic plans, narratives, and campaign frameworks tailored to companies operating in AI, emerging tech, and innovation-heavy sectors.

Guide clients through complex challenges involving policy, regulatory scrutiny, market shifts, and public perception.

Campaign Development & Execution

Design and execute integrated communications campaigns, including media strategy, stakeholder mapping, narrative architecture, and coalition engagement.

Lead drafting of messaging, talking points, statements, speeches, op-eds, briefing materials, and other content that translates technical subject matter into clear, compelling storytelling.

Pitch, identify key targets, and cultivate relationships across tech, policy, and business press.

Build and manage stakeholder outreach strategies, including government, industry, advocacy, academic, and community partners

Technology, Policy & AI Expertise

Apply a sophisticated understanding of AI, data governance, emerging technology trends, and regulatory issues to client strategies.

Translate complex or technical topics into communications frameworks that resonate with policymakers, press, and public audiences.

Anticipate risks and opportunities for clients navigating rapidly changing technological and political landscapes.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with senior leadership, SVPs, and junior associates to develop high-quality communications materials, campaign plans, and strategic recommendations.

Collaborate with policy teams, research teams, and creative partners to ensure integrated, high-impact deliverables.

Travel as needed to support client meetings, campaign activations, stakeholder convenings, or field operations.

Qualifications

At least 4 years of experience

in strategic communications, public affairs, technology policy, or campaigns — ideally supporting companies in AI, frontier tech, or other innovation-driven sectors.

Proven success leading complex, multi-stakeholder campaigns in fast-paced environments.

Exceptional writing, messaging, and narrative development skills — able to communicate technical concepts with clarity and impact.

Strong understanding of the policy and regulatory dynamics shaping AI, data privacy, tech governance, platform regulation, or emerging industries.

Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships, provide senior-level counsel, and oversee cross-functional teams.

Experience engaging with reporters, policymakers, community leaders, and industry stakeholders.

Highly resourceful, proactive, and comfortable navigating ambiguous or rapidly shifting priorities.

The pay range for this position is expected to be between $110,000 and $135,000/year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, market factors, and business need.
