The Precision Control Actuation System department is seeking a mechanical design engineer to support the development, build, and verification of common control actuation systems, focusing on actuator design. This role supports an integrated product team across multiple programs. Stakeholder management and cross‑disciplinary collaboration are essential.
What You Will Do
You will provide mechanical engineering support for a common CAS, including detailed mechanical design, earned value management, test design and execution, and systems engineering.
You will be the main product POC and may lead a small team of lower‑level professionals.
You will flex responsibilities based on current organizational needs and your skill set.
You will work autonomously with minimal oversight, manage moderate‑size projects, delegate work, and possess advanced expertise to address difficult and complex problems.

The PCAS organization provides ample opportunities for hands‑on hardware work, with dedicated lab space at our Huntsville and Tucson facilities.
PCAS engineers experience lab activities including engineering builds, hardware integration, tuning, and verification.

Mentor relationships are encouraged.
Qualifications You Must Have
Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
Experience in mechanical mechanism design or flight control systems for aerospace applications.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
Qualifications We Prefer
Experience developing flight control systems for aerospace applications.
Experience collaborating with major sub‑tier suppliers.
Knowledge of design and verification testing of systems.
Ability to travel to supplier sites, including the United Kingdom.
Experience with daily action plans and RAIL.
Performance testing of actuators and interpreting results.
Familiarity with gear design, motor design, and control architecture concepts.
Experience with Creo, Windchill/cPDM, and related processes.
Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Systems, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink model development.
Experience with dSPACE Real‑time test systems.
Estimation of project/task effort.
Collaboration with geographically distributed teams.
CERTIFICATION in Earned Value Project Management.
Strong oral and written communication.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
