Job Summary The Instructional Design Consultant provides consultation to faculty to conceptualize, design, develop, deliver, and assess high-quality hybrid and online courses, recommending cutting‑edge and best‑practice tools to achieve and measure student‑learning outcomes.
Consults with university faculty and other stakeholders by maintaining a design portfolio of new online courses and quality enhancement courses.
Ensures newly developed courses meet quality design standards and consults with faculty on learning objectives.
Provides pedagogical consultation to online faculty, coaching, mentoring, and encouraging online teaching, learning best practices and FIU Online quality and cost initiatives.
Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with university faculty, serving as a key source of information on best practices for instructional design, FIU Online initiatives, and advancing excellence in online teaching.
Creates and facilitates training for stakeholders on instructional design practices and theory, development processes, and emerging uses of available tools or resources.
Responds to course portfolio requests and performs service recovery in a timely manner.
Maintains functional competency with media design and creation skills, LMS tools, and associated educational technologies.
Collaborates with the Instructional Design Manager on assigned projects or committees to advance FIU Online initiatives.
May supervise lower‑level staff.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and five (5) years of experience in a related field; or a Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and three (3) years of experience in a related field.
Desired Qualifications
Advanced proficiency with Canvas Learning Management System.
Expert knowledge of principles of instructional and visual design, educational technologies, and the Quality Matters framework.
Prior experience working with subject‑matter experts or faculty members to develop curriculum and design distance‑learning courses.
Prior experience designing interactive learning modules.
Certificate or Graduate Degree in Instructional/Curriculum Design.
Salary $65,000 – $75,000
Work Schedule Begin time: 9:00 AM End time: 5:30 PM

Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
