Sumter Museum is a growing complex of sites where you can experience Sumter’s complete story. The Creative Marketing Coordinator plays a key role in shaping the museum’s visual and written storytelling across digital and print platforms. This position creates, manages, and delivers compelling media and marketing content—from graphic design and digital assets to social media, photography, and copywriting. The ideal candidate is a creative thinker with strong design skills, sharp writing abilities, and a passion for engaging diverse audiences through clear, thoughtful, and visually appealing communication.

This position can be a hybrid of remote and on-site, with some weekly office hours on site required. The Creative Marketing Coordinator will report to the Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Digital Media & Asset Creation
    • Design engaging digital assets, including graphics for social media, website, email campaigns, and digital signage.
    • Capture and edit photography and short‑form video for promotional use across platforms.
    • Manage the museum’s digital media library to ensure organized, high‑quality, and accessible content.
    • Create branded templates, icons, and visual elements to support consistent messaging.
  • Copywriting & Content Development
    • Write compelling copy for social media, newsletters, email campaigns, press releases, and advertisements.
    • Draft clear, accessible content for exhibit promotions, educational programs, donor communications, and events.
    • Edit and proofread content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and brand alignment.
  • Social & Web Support
    • Assist in managing the museum’s social media calendar, posting schedule, and community engagement.
    • Collaborate on website updates, including layout suggestions, image selection, and page copy.
    • Monitor performance analytics and adjust messaging and visuals as needed.
  • Brand & Marketing Coordination
    • Ensure all materials consistently reflect the museum’s branding, voice, and visual identity.
    • Support marketing campaigns from concept to execution, collaborating with staff across departments.
    • Assist with print collateral such as brochures, flyers, signage, and event materials.
  • Collaboration & Internal Support
    • Work closely with the exhibitions, education, and fundraising teams to develop tailored content.
    • Photograph programs, field trips, donor events, and museum activities as needed.
    • Provide creative insight during planning meetings for campaigns, exhibits, and public events.

Professional Standards and Expectations

Adhere to Sumter Museum Personnel Guidelines.

Occasionally serve as on‑site staff during rentals.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience or applicable coursework in communications and/or marketing in a nonprofit organization preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while managing deadlines.
  • Proven results in managing social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc.) and analytics technologies to engage a diverse audience.
  • Knowledge in graphic design platforms, including Adobe Creative Suite and Canva preferred.
  • Video and photography experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with WordPress preferred, but basic website knowledge required.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

Hours & Wages

20 to 25 hours a week. Flexible. Position can be hybrid with some weekly office hours on site required. May be asked to work evenings and weekends for special events occasionally.

Wages: Based on individual qualifications and/or experience.

Our mission is to explore historical experiences through programs and exhibits that allow all of us to inform and shape our future. Sumter Museum consists of the Williams Brice House (1916), Heritage Education Center, Carolina Backcountry Homestead, the Temple Sinai Jewish History Center, and the soon‑to‑open Sumter Military Museum.
