Director of Advertising Analytics

About the Role

We are CNN, the world's most essential and engaging source of digital news. In the midst of rapid transformation, we need a next‑generation innovator to lead and drive our growth. As Director of Advertising Analytics, you will align business metrics with data‑driven revenue opportunities, moving our digital business forward at the intersection of journalism, audience behavior, and product innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Hire and develop a team of analysts to generate actionable insights that maximize ad revenue.
  • Partner with Data Engineering to set ad data strategy, evaluate source‑system datasets, and determine necessary transformations for operational and reporting needs.
  • Establish baseline metrics for the Revenue Enablement Mission and collaborate with Operations, Product, and Sales stakeholders to ensure consistent usage.
  • Launch a CNN 1st‑party data program that leverages CNN’s competitive advantages to target ads more effectively.
  • Use exploratory data analysis, industry trends, and cross‑team alignment to identify levers for advertising business performance.
  • Deeply understand the ads ecosystem and data flows to uncover commercial opportunities and execution pathways.
  • Partner with adjacent data and analytics teams to build sustainable data models serving the entire Digital Products & Services organization.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Demonstrated track record of high impact in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Expertise in analytics tools: SQL, ETL/ELT, Python/R, and visualization platforms (Looker, Tableau, Domo, etc.).
  • Curiosity and initiative in adopting new technologies, particularly GenAI/ML.
  • Minimum 9 years of experience in analytics, data engineering, data science, business intelligence, or related roles.
  • 3+ years of experience managing technical teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Prior experience in advertising and ad tech preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $140,000.00 – $260,000.00 per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short‑ and long‑term incentives, and program‑specific awards. Additional benefits include health insurance, employee wellness programs, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays, sick time, and vacation.
