Job Title: Instructional Designer – SAP Training (Electric Transmission & Maintenance)
Location: Chicago, IL or Northwest Indiana (Local candidates preferred)
Type: W-2 Contract
Rate: $55 - $60/hour
Duration: Immediate start through early August 2025 (with possibility of extension)
Travel: Local travel required as needed
Position
We are seeking an Instructional Designer to support the development of Instructor-Led Training (ILT) materials for two key functions within the electric transmission and maintenance operations of a leading utility provider. This short-term contract will focus on building training content to prepare field personnel for upcoming process and system changes, with delivery planned for November 2025.
Scope of Services
The Instructional Designer Will Develop Structured ILT Materials For

  • EBLM – Electric Business Line Maintenance, supporting maintenance crews
  • As-Builting Functionality for electric transmission line personnel (approx. 150 learners)
This role requires creating self-contained training materials that are fully ready for delivery by the August go-live date (August 4, 2025), with the actual delivery scheduled for November.
Responsibilities & Deliverables
  • Design and develop instructor-led training (ILT) content, including participant and facilitator guides
  • Develop job aids and supporting materials for technical field teams
  • Ensure all content is ready for delivery by August, ahead of the planned November rollout
  • Focus training on field personnel involved in electric transmission and maintenance operations
  • Integrate SAP asset management and work management functionalities into course materials
  • Apply utility industry best practices and ensure content meets operational needs
  • Incorporate adult learning principles and practical, hands-on scenarios
  • Participate in content reviews and incorporate feedback from subject matter experts
  • Travel locally as needed to gather information or support team collaboration
Required Skills And Experience
  • Proven instructional design experience with a focus on ILT development
  • Experience working with SAP, specifically in asset management or work management
  • Familiarity with utilities or energy industry operations (preferred)
  • Experience developing training for manufacturing, asset management, or work management environments
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work with subject matter experts and operational teams
  • Ability to travel locally to Northwest Indiana as needed
