Director of Music/Pastoral Assistant University Christian Church (Los Angeles, CA) is a Word and gospel-centered, multiethnic church community located in the Ladera Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. Position Summary This part‑time position combines two roles: a Pastoral Assistant (20‑29 hours) and a Director of Music/Assistant Pastor of Music (15‑20 hours) supporting the senior pastor and leading worship.

Key Responsibilities

Pastoral Assistant:

Support the senior pastor with scheduling meetings, appointments, and church‑related events.

Prepare and proofread correspondence and other church communications.

Manage the church calendar and organize meetings and events.

Maintain church files, directories, and important documents.

Handle office tasks such as managing phone calls, emails, and regular mail.

Assist in providing pastoral care to members, including phone calls, emails, and occasional visitations.

Coordinate and schedule pastoral care visits.

Assist in organizing church events, programs, and activities (conferences, retreats, outreach initiatives).

Support planning and execution of worship services, including logistics, volunteer coordination, and communication with worship teams.

Assist in creating and distributing newsletters, bulletins, and social media content.

Maintain church databases and contact information for members and volunteers.

Recruit, schedule, and manage volunteers for services, events, and ministries.

Provide administrative support to other pastoral staff and ministry leaders.

Help ensure the church office runs smoothly, including front desk, supplies, equipment, and technology needs.

Director of Music/Assistant Pastor of Music:

Collaborate with the Senior Pastor to plan and implement Sunday worship services.

Lead worship during weekend services, special events, and other church activities.

Develop and implement a comprehensive worship strategy aligned with the church’s mission, vision, and theological values.

Select songs and coordinate worship sets.

Recruit, train, and mentor musicians, vocalists, and other worship team members.

Coordinate rehearsals and maintain a healthy, supportive environment for the team.

Collaborate with ministry leaders to align services with sermon passages, themes, and church events.

Manage the worship ministry calendar and coordinate technical teams (AV).

Provide spiritual guidance and nurture a lifestyle of worship and personal devotion.

Manage the worship ministry budget and purchasing of equipment.

Prepare reports on ministry activities and progress.

Seek opportunities for training, development, and growth.

Provide pastoral care to the congregation, especially those involved in the worship ministry.

Qualifications

Spiritual Maturity:

A committed Christian with a deep personal relationship with Christ and a solid understanding of biblical teachings.

Experience:

Previous experience in church administration, ministry, or a related field is preferred; worship ministry leadership experience is highly desirable.

Communication Skills:

Strong written and verbal communication skills; professional interaction with members, staff, and the public.

Organizational Skills:

Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently with attention to detail.

Confidentiality:

Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

Computer Skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, and church management software such as Planning Center.

Team Player:

Collaborative, supportive of others in their roles.

Pastoral Sensitivity:

Empathy and pastoral sensitivity when interacting with individuals in need of care.

Compensation and Benefits 50‑60k + Benefits.
