The Top of West Virginia Convention & Visitors Bureau promotes tourism, events, and travel experiences throughout Brooke and Hancock Counties, WV. We operate a visitor center, art gallery, gift shop, and events while supporting local businesses, community organizations, and regional attractions. We are seeking a friendly, organized, and enthusiastic Communications & Office Assistant to join our team. Position Summary: The Communications & Office Assistant provides essential administrative, marketing, and visitor service support. This entry-level role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public and is eager to gain experience in tourism, marketing, and communications while working in a collaborative and creative environment. The Assistant helps manage the front desk and visitor center, supports marketing and social media efforts, assists with event preparation, and keeps office operations running smoothly. This position reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with the Marketing & Visitor Experience Manager. It requires a full-time, on-site work schedule from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday. This position may occasionally require additional hours-including evenings, weekends, or holidays-to support events or time-sensitive projects. Duties & Responsibilities: Communications & Marketing Support: Draft and schedule social media posts following the organizations brand and content plan. Monitor social media messages, comments, and engagement. Upload and update website content (event listings, photos, news). Help collect and organize content for the monthly email newsletter. Visitor Center & Office Operations: Greet visitors and provide travel information and recommendations. Answer phone calls, respond to general inquiries, and direct messages to appropriate staff. Maintain brochure racks, restock materials, and request new tourism literature as needed. Assist in the gift shop with sales and inventory. Open and sort mail; prepare invoices and bills for the Executive Director. Maintain contact lists, calendars, and office supplies. Event & Community Support: Assist with event preparation, vendor coordination, and on-site setup. Help distribute posters, brochures, and promotional materials locally. Provide on-site support during events (check-in, setup, photography, etc.) Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Comfort using social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube). Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace). Knowledge or proficiency for learning Adobe Creative Cloud and WordPress a plus. Friendly, professional attitude with strong customer service skills. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Interest in tourism, marketing, or community engagement/events is preferred.
