Position Summary The Division of Humanities, Social Sciences, Media and the Arts invites applications for a full‑time Director of the Morehouse Multimedia Center (MMC) within the Journalism in Sports, Culture and Social Justice Department. This pivotal role involves overseeing the MMC’s completion, coordinating dynamic programming and initiatives to support students, student organizations, and faculty, and managing a team of student lab assistants. The Director will also spearhead fundraising efforts in collaboration with Morehouse’s Office of Institutional Advancement.
Required Qualifications A master’s degree in a media‑related field such as Journalism, Media Arts, Fine Arts, Communications, Educational Technology plus work experience in media and experience teaching or training.
Preferred Qualifications The college is looking for someone who has a vision for multimedia development, engages in scholarship, and can be committed to the mission of Morehouse College—to develop men with disciplined minds who lead lives of leadership and service by emphasizing the intellectual and character development of its students and by assuming a special responsibility for teaching the history and culture of black people.
Preferred Education/Experience A terminal degree in a media‑related field such as Journalism, Media Arts, Fine Arts, Communications, Educational Technology plus work experience in media and experience teaching or training.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Multimedia Production and Management Expertise: The ideal candidate must possess comprehensive knowledge and skills in all phases of multimedia production, including development, pre‑production, production, and post‑production across various formats (e.g., video, graphic design, web content, immersive media and live‑streaming). This includes the ability to oversee project completion and ensure high‑quality deliverables.
Leadership and Team Management: The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to effectively manage and mentor a team of student lab assistants. This includes coordinating and supporting an array of students, student organizations, and faculty through programming and initiatives.
Program Development and Coordination: Required abilities include designing, implementing, and coordinating dynamic programming and initiatives for a diverse audience within an academic setting. This involves understanding the needs of students, student organizations, and faculty in the context of journalism, sports, culture, and social justice.
Fundraising and Strategic Advancement Skills: The candidate must have knowledge and practical skills in fundraising, including the ability to spearhead fundraising efforts and work collaboratively with an Office of Institutional Advancement to secure resources and support for the center’s mission and growth.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift and carry multimedia equipment, potentially weighing up to 25‑50 pounds.
Capability to climb and descend ladders for equipment setup, adjustments, or maintenance.
Periods of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling as required for equipment operation, troubleshooting, and event support.
Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for operating cameras, audio equipment, computers, and other related technology.
Facilitate the construction, installation and opening of the Morehouse Multimedia Center (MMC).
Cultivate partnerships with partners.
Support students, student organizations, and faculty research through the coordination of MMC programming and initiatives.
Manage a team of students who will serve as lab assistants.
Coordinate the training and coaching for signature experiential learning.
Organize and share content with Morehouse’s Office of Institutional Advancement in fundraising.
Communicate MMC accomplishments and work to external partners and stakeholders.
