$85,000 - $90,000 yearly, commensurate with experience.

Overview Develops and executes a communications strategy that supports the grassroots organizing, public policy, and brand awareness goals of Housing Works. The role requires an energetic, motivated, and detail-oriented individual who collaborates closely with Advocacy, Development, and HR teams to create, develop, and execute internal and external relations efforts. Position based in New York, New York.
Responsibilities
Develop media strategy related to policy priorities and high-impact campaigns.
Plan media strategy for actions, rallies, press conferences, and large-scale events.
Create advocacy-related content, including rapid-response statements and advocacy alerts across all social media channels (including video).
Manage content for Advocacy web pages and blogs.
Create and manage email subscription lists, and develop and implement creative strategies to drive traffic to Advocacy platforms.
Ensure adherence to Housing Works brand guidelines for all advocacy materials and content.
Lead internal communication related to HW Advocacy in collaboration with People Operations.
Develop and cultivate relationships with reporters, editors, producers, and columnists.
Monitor breaking news related to Housing Works’ policy and program issues (HIV/AIDS, homelessness, healthcare, LGBTQ issues, prison/justice reform, cannabis).
Support team participation in relevant conferences and meetings.
Collaborate on and support other advocacy projects as needed.
Provide flexibility to travel and attend evening meetings on occasion.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Other Functions
Participation in interdepartmental Housing Works Committees.
Participation in coalitions with other activists and organizations.
Manage relationships with marketing software, printing, and media production vendors.
Job Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field.
Qualifications:
5-8 years of relevant communications experience.
Experience with communication strategies in public policy or grassroots advocacy organizations.
Experience working with the media.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience creating compelling social media content.
Basic photography and video skills.
Basic graphic design skills, working with Canva templates; Adobe Suite a plus.
Problem-solving, critical, creative, and quick thinking.
Familiarity with website management and CMS tools.
Familiarity or proficiency with CRMs and email/text marketing platforms.
Ability to write and speak in Spanish is a plus.
Additional Competencies:
Commitment to working with low-income and marginalized communities, including individuals with multiple chronic medical and/or behavioral health conditions.
Working Conditions
Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods.
Ability to hear and see within normal range.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Extended periods at a computer.
Finger and hand dexterity to manipulate objects.
Extensive travel on public transportation (bus & train).
