Our Optics, Photonics, and Light Systems (OPALS) Research group is seeking a passionate Optical Scientist dedicated to innovation in next-generation near-eye display technology. Your mission will be to envision, design, and model advanced combiner components and systems essential for future Augmented Reality display architectures. Required Skills: As an Optical Design Research Scientist, your responsibilities will include: Optical design and modeling of critical component technology for near-eye display combiners.

Collaborating with diverse teams across domains such as Computation, Optics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Process Development, and Integration to explore innovative combiner designs.

Minimum Qualifications: To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria: Currently holds, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field. This degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

Currently holds, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD in optical sciences, physics, electrical engineering, or a related area. This degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

At least 1 year of experience in optical design using software such as Lumerical, Virtual Lab, FRED, LightTools, Zemax, or CODE V.

1+ year of experience with scientific programming and data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Pytorch, C++, etc.).

1+ year of experience in light propagation methods in wave and ray domains, as well as mixed models.

1+ year of experience with electromagnetic modeling of nanoscale structures, metagratings, anisotropic materials, films, or holographic elements.

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications: 2+ years of experience in the design and modeling of diffractive/holographic waveguide-based near-to-eye display systems with coherent and incoherent light sources.

2+ years of experience working with electromagnetic theory, modeling optical structures, and developing software tools for simulation on distributed systems and parallel computing infrastructure.

2+ years of experience in utilizing machine learning or deep neural networks for novel nano-optics inverse design.

2+ years of experience in the design, fabrication, and testing of novel optical structures including metastructures, holographic elements, and beam steering elements.

2+ years of experience using optical metrology tools, such as interferometry, image quality testing, and polarization testing.

Public Compensation: $117,000/year to $173,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits. Industry:
