Library Pages
Library Pages maintain the arrangement of library materials, shelve materials, shift, and pick up materials left throughout the library. Pages gather materials requested on the reserve list and place them on the hold shelves. This position is part-time, non-benefited. The position will work 10-16 hours a week with a flexible schedule. Work is supervised by a section assistant supervisor and the section supervisor. Examples of duties include: Reshelving materials Maintaining proper and neat arrangements of library materials on shelves Cleanup materials from throughout the library Handling materials from tubs to conveyor and sorting bins onto carts Putting carts of materials in alpha/numeric order Shifting materials among shelves Gathering materials to fill reserves Processing holds Checking the condition of media returned to APL as needed Special projects including major shifting of library materials or shelf reading Referring questions from the public to service desks appropriately Attending training and staff meetings Keeping current on library policies and procedures Typical qualifications include: Good organizational skills Good attention to detail Ability to read fine print The ability to sort materials alphabetically and numerically quickly and accurately The ability to reach shelving within a height range of three to 75 inches, lift up to 50 pounds, and push a loaded book cart (300 lbs.) on carpeting The ability to kneel, crouch, stand, bend, reach or walk for most of a work shift The ability to use hands, wrists and arms for most of a work shift The ability to stand up quickly from a kneeling or sitting position on the floor The ability to communicate with tact and courtesy This position is a non-benefited position with the City of Appleton.
