Civic Media has built a radio and digital media network in the Midwest with the goal of championing the practice of democracy by empowering honest and informative local voices. We're merging the legacy of radio with the immediacy of digital to deliver high-quality content to a growing audience via our radio stations, websites, mobile app, newsletters and social media platforms. We work in a fast-paced environment that values communication, integrity, vision, innovation and collaboration in order to fulfill our vision of being the media platform that informs, guides and inspires our audience through the complex landscape of information, commentary and civic engagement.

Summary

We're looking for a show host who is able to discuss regional and Wisconsin state issues daily - from farms to cities to schools to neighborhoods, all of it. Rather than focusing solely on politics and politicians, your goal will be to focus on people, and how public policy affects folks personally. You'll be asking for and brainstorming solutions, rather than just assigning blame or pointing fingers. You'll be asked to weave phone calls and soundbites into your conversations to create compelling and entertaining content.

Responsibilities
  • Performing live broadcasts, which includes interacting in real-time with listeners through phone calls, social media, and contests to build a loyal following
  • Conducting interviews with guests, experts, and regional community leaders to highlight diverse perspectives and stories
  • Creating entertaining, engaging content from multiple viewpoints on multiple topics
  • Interviewing Civic Media contributors and recurring guests
  • Promoting, teasing upcoming content, reading scripts, contests, ad-libbing, and live commercials
  • Working under the direction of managers, senior producers, and other team members on overall show strategy, as well as daily topics and content
  • Collaborating with senior producers to brainstorm and develop creative show concepts and segments
  • Engaging with the audience through social media platforms and on-air interactions, fostering a sense of community
  • Participating in promotional events and community outreach to enhance the station's visibility and listener engagement
  • *The company reserves the right to add or change duties at any time
Qualifications
  • 5+ years experience as an on-air personality, specializing in talk radio
  • Knowledge of radio broadcasting mechanics and best practices
  • Understanding of media production processes and regulatory compliance
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field like journalism, communications, or broadcasting is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine interest in connecting with audiences
  • Ability to think on your feet, think creatively, and juggle multiple tasks/topics simultaneously
  • Strong interviewing and interpersonal skills
  • A deep understanding of digital content creation in relationship with their show
  • Familiarity with social media platforms for audience engagement
  • Connection to local communities and willingness to travel to them to learn and absorb the local culture
