About the Role

Library Media Technician in the Library & Learning Support Division, Office of Instruction. Provides paraprofessional library services including circulation, technical support for automated library services, administrative support to the Librarian, and partial leadership over day‑to‑day library operations.

Eligibility

IN-HOUSE ONLY: Open to internal permanent and temporary CCCD employees. External candidates are not eligible. Must be a current active employee of CCCD, authorized to work in the U.S. No visa sponsorship.

Job Type and Hours

Permanent, general funded, full‑time, 12‑month per year. Monday–Friday 7:30 am to 4:30 pm; occasional extended hours or weekends may be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate and perform circulation services; schedule and supervise staff; communicate procedures and policies.
  2. Assist students, staff, and public with library use, answer questions, provide instruction on computers, process material and fee transactions.
  3. Conduct orientations for student patrons on the library and electronic resources.
  4. Process inter‑library loan requests and manage book transfers.
  5. Maintain records of requests, receipts, returns, fines, and manage transcript holds.
  6. Repair or dispose of damaged materials; conduct annual physical inventory.
  7. Oversee computer lab: maintain hardware and software, troubleshoot issues, collaborate with IT.
  8. Manage Paper Cut printing system, cash handling, and reporting.
  9. Schedule and maintain media rooms and technology; assist students with computer issues and training.
  10. Assist students with computer issues, questions, and training in the computer lab.
  11. Hire and train new employees in circulation and media areas.
  12. Update department policies and procedure manuals.
  13. Collect and report data for annual statistics reports.
  14. Communicate policies and hours, update website, and post signs.
  15. Select and purchase textbooks for reserve collection using budget guidelines.
  16. Manage daily cash reconciliation and safe deposit to Bursar.
  17. Open/close building daily.
  18. Maintain cataloging records, resolve errors, and participate in purchasing decisions.
  19. Prepare and submit departmental reports and statistics.
  20. Run and process reports of long overdue items for collection development.
  21. Search and download bibliographic descriptions of materials purchased or acquired into the catalog.
  22. Maintain data accuracy of book and material descriptions in the online catalog, resolving errors.
  23. Update authority headings in the catalog when notified of changes.
  24. Participate in statewide meetings on new technology and library software.
  25. Collect and report statistics on departmental activities.
  26. Perform other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.
  27. Abide by all District policies and procedures, including Board Policy 3050 – Code of Professional Ethics.

Qualifications

  1. In‑depth procedural knowledge of library methods, practices and terminology, including use of the library catalog.
  2. Understanding of Library of Congress classification, ALA cataloging rules.
  3. Basic knowledge of machine‑readable classification and coding.
  4. Working knowledge of automated library systems and records.
  5. Thorough understanding of library operations, goals and objectives.
  6. Strong human relations skills; ability to convey specialized concepts and resolve urgent student needs.
  7. Arithmetic skills for arranging materials and calculating sums.
  8. Writing skills to document instructions.
  9. Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain an organized library setting.
  10. Ability to apply and explain library services, layout, rules and policies.
  11. Ability to deal courteously with patrons and staff.
  12. Ability to perform routine clerical and record‑keeping duties.
  13. Requirement to abide by District policies including Board Policy 3050.

Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in library science curriculum or equivalent and two years of experience in an academic library. A post‑secondary Library Certificate and four years of experience may be accepted, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required qualifications.

Licenses and Certificates

May require a valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions

Work performed indoors with minimal safety considerations.
