Duty Editor (Breaking News Team) – Reuters Company : Thomson
Location : Washington, DC or New York bureau
Reuters is looking for an ambitious and experienced journalist to help lead its text breaking‑news team covering the United States and Canada. The team covers major stories from the White House to national affairs and is the first responder to major stories. The role requires deep knowledge of U.S. political and general news and experience covering or managing reporting teams producing stories quickly and accurately.
About the Role
Take charge of major breaking‑news stories across the political and general file.
Ensure fast and accurate headlines, alerts, and stories.
Plan breaking‑news coverage around major events, including speeches by the U.S. president or other top officials.
Manage the breaking‑news team creatively to ensure growth and development for journalists while meeting file needs.
Work closely and collaboratively with other editors and with video and photography teams.
About You
Deep understanding of U.S. political and general news, including Washington operations.
Experience as a reporter or editor covering breaking‑news stories with Reuters or another leading news organization.
Strong work ethic, team spirit and excellent organizational skills.
Excellent journalistic and management skills.
Understanding of Reuters systems and processes, and ideas to improve them, including using AI.
