Overview
The Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MABVI) invites volunteers to support a visually impaired woman in Arlington, MA with her rock‑climbing hobby. The volunteer will act as a belay partner and guide, aiding in outdoor climbing activities and general errands when needed. Responsibilities
Assist with rock climbing, including belaying (belay certification is a bonus). Support the volunteer with guide dog interactions and general outdoor safety. Help with occasional shopping and errands as requested. Participate in other general volunteer tasks such as reading mail, approving bills, and technology support as needed. Qualifications
Female preferred. Comfortable working with dogs. Up‑to‑date COVID‑19 vaccinations. Owns a car and is willing to drive to shopping trips occasionally. Belay certification is a plus. Time Commitment
Volunteers typically devote 1–2 hours per week or every other week, depending on the volunteer’s match’s needs. Onboarding Process
Submit an MABVI Volunteer Application. Complete the online, modular Volunteer Training. Schedule a Zoom chat with a member of the MABVI Volunteer Team or submit a CORI. Meet the MABVI Volunteer Team. Join a team of over 200 volunteers across the state who help create a difference in the blind and low‑vision community.
