Overview

Visual Merchandiser supports the management team to achieve sales goals by delivering world‑class service and creating engaging customer experiences in West Elm’s Brooklyn store.

Responsibilities

  • Create engaging experiences for customers by sharing expertise on styling, decorating, and entertaining.
  • Seek out and promote innovative ways to make West Elm a neighborhood destination for inspiration.
  • Interpret and execute visual inspiration to drive sales and convey the eclectic, creative, and modern spirit the brand.
  • Ensure merchandising displays are visually compelling to drive sales.
  • Model and coach associates on how to uphold visual standards.
  • Promote the lifestyle and protect the image of the West Elm brand.
  • Make the store a fun, inspirational neighborhood destination.
  • Continually seek out inspiration, trends, and ways to elevate product, decorating, and styling expertise.
  • Replenish the sales floor regularly and maintain visual presentation and displays.
  • Execute floorset to reflect the inspiration, standards, and spirit of the directive within required timeframe.
  • Foster an environment where all associates are treated fairly and with dignity and respect.
  • Collaborate with the sales team by appreciating and valuing the talents and contributions of others.
  • Be held accountable for brand competencies such as strategic agility, innovation, leadership, effective communication, self‑development, partnership building, customer focus, personal accountability, operations excellence, and execution.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in merchandising or visual role.
  • 1–2 years of experience in home‑related design or visual merchandising preferred; specialty retail preferred.
  • Effective communication, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to motivate and influence others through personal actions and examples.
  • College degree preferred or equivalent work experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Mobile on the sales floor for extended periods.
  • Operate POS system.
  • Lift and mobilize medium to large items up to 75 pounds with proper equipment and safety techniques.

Schedule and Pay

Part‑time flex associates must work a minimum of two regularly scheduled weekend shifts (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday) and two weekday shifts (Monday‑Thursday). Associates scheduled for 20+ hours weekly must maintain greater availability to meet business needs. Compensation ranges from $18.00–$19.00 per hour, depending on education, experience, and location.
