Description
The Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Manager will lead a team of highly skilled engineers responsible for developing and implementing cutting‑edge manufacturing processes for Apple's next‑generation Audio products. This role requires an experienced leader who can drive manufacturing automation innovation from concept to mass production, ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and cost‑effectiveness. You will be instrumental in bridging design and manufacturing, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in advanced manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a team of Advanced Manufacturing Engineers, fostering technical excellence, cross functional collaboration, and continuous improvement with a results driven approach.
Manage project timelines, cost, and resources to deliver manufacturing solutions on schedule and at or exceeding program targets.
Ability to step in for any member of the team & perform Individual contributor level tasks per‑business needs.
Collaborate cross‑functionally and drive balance between competing priorities.
Drive the development and implementation of advanced manufacturing processes and technologies for NPI from early concept to mass production.
Identify, evaluate, and integrate new high‑throughput manufacturing technologies to enhance quality, reduce costs, and improve operational efficiency.
Conduct tolerance analysis and select critical components/technologies for equipment design to achieve product tolerances and operations requirements.
Develop comprehensive RFQs/RFPs for automated equipment and fixtures, outlining design specifications, delivery, documentation, and acceptance criteria.
Lead technical design reviews and manage machine suppliers/manufacturing partners on proposals for automated manufacturing solutions, driving robustness and on‑time delivery.
Oversee equipment and fixture bring‑up, qualification, and acceptance testing at supplier and CM sites, ensuring line readiness and providing hands‑on management during critical build events.
Drive rigorous machine and fixture qualification, including correlation studies, yield, Cp/Cpk analysis, Gage R&R, cycle time, downtime rate, and tossing rate.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for manufacturing issues during NPI and production ramp‑up.
Collect technical information from factories, net‑out important factors, and provide recommendations on next steps. Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and execs.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Robotics/Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
8+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role, preferably in consumer electronics or a high‑volume manufacturing environment.
Strong experience in equipment design, development, qualification, and deployment from NPI to mass production.
Proven track record of successfully bringing new products from design conception to high‑volume production.
Strong understanding of various manufacturing processes, materials, and automation technologies.
Good knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), SPC, metrology principles, and manufacturing process qualification.
Experience in custom automation equipment mechanical design and/or programming. Working knowledge of laser welding, dispensing, robotics (6‑axis and/or SCARA), pneumatics, motion controllers, PLC and and PC‑based control systems is a plus.
Experience with DFM/DFA principles and advanced problem‑solving methodologies.
Experience in clearly communicating project status, next steps, and help needed to executives.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams.
Ability to travel internationally up to 30% of time.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or greater in a relevant engineering discipline.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
Experience in adhesive dispensing, Automated Optical Inspection (AOI), fastening, metal and plastic welding, high‑speed pick and placing, automated flex handling, packaging, and other automated assembly processes.
Experience working with international manufacturing partners and supply chains.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX) and simulation tools.
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $165,400 and $248,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
