Overview
Authorization Specialist role at Together Women's Health. The Women\'s Imaging Center, a practice partner of Together Women's Health, is seeking a full-time in-person Authorization Specialist to join their medical team. The Authorization Specialist works for the practice under the oversight of the practice manager. Daily tasks may include obtaining authorizations for procedures, surgeries, medications and imaging. This role will also interact with medical staff and patients.
Key responsibilities
Obtain authorizations for MRIs adhering to insurance requirements.
Verify eligibility and benefits for all procedure codes, ensuring accurate documentation.
Document work processes meticulously and coordinate paperwork efficiently.
Respond promptly to urgent/emergent situations with professionalism and compassion.
Demonstrate exceptional customer service towards patients and their families.
Ensure efficient telephone communication and collaborate effectively within the authorizations department and across other departments.
Scheduling and rescheduling patients.
Act as the main advocate for patients when speaking directly with insurance companies as needed.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to obtain prior authorizations for medical procedures, treatments, and services.
Review insurance requirements and guidelines to ensure accurate and timely submission of authorization requests.
Verify patient eligibility and benefits coverage for prescribed treatments and services.
Communicate effectively with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients to facilitate the authorization process and resolve any issues or discrepancies.
Maintain thorough documentation of authorization requests, approvals, and denials.
Monitor authorization status and follow up as needed to expedite approvals and minimize delays in patient care.
Stay informed about changes in insurance policies, procedures, and regulations related to prior authorizations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum 2 years of experience as an Authorization Specialist preferred.
Proficiency in medical terminology, ICD-10, and CPT coding.
Familiarity with contracted insurance plans and procedures.
Strong computer and phone skills.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and multitask effectively.
Must be organized
Must be able to work well under stressful conditions.
Must have excellent patient/customer care skills.
Physical requirements
Physical requirements can vary. These must be reviewed with management. However, in general, the position requires the following physical activities
Ability to lift a minimum of 2 pounds to a maximum of 20 pounds unassisted; able to sit, stand, stoop, walk, stretch, reach frequently; moderate range of body motions.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
